Israeli Girls Adopt Georgia

Two sisters two students—two Israelis. These phrases are de-
seriptiie of Ofira and Vardina Erez who are students at the Univer
sity and hail from Aviv, Israel.
organizations, presented radio pro
grams, and has become well known
to many people in the University and
Athens. Both fall and winter quar
ters, she made the Dean’s List in
the graduate school. She has been
offered scholarships for next year
at Columbia University and New
York University.
Vardina Erez, 21, came to the
U. S. in March and is attending Geor
gia this quarter through the efforts
of the Sigma Delta Tau sorority.
Vardina was also a sergeant in the
Israeli Army. She is enrolled in the
College of Education, and her courses
include education and psychology,
education 103, and family rela
tions.
Ofira, who is 23, came to Georgia
In September with the help of the
Sisterhood, the Delta Phi Epsilon
sorority, and a Georgia scholarship
in order to get her Masters Degree
in Adult Counseling. Ofira lives at
the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority house.
In Israel Ofira was in the theater
for three years, was a sergeant In
the army for two years, and was
"Miss Typical Israel" In 1956, repre
senting Israel In Paris along with
girls from every country. Since she
landed in New York in September,
she has twice returned for visits in
New York and alBo traveled to Cali
fornia.
Ofira has made extensive public
appearances in and around Athens,
has spoken to various groups and

Beta Gamma Sigma
Taps 22 Members
In Business School
The University of Georgia chapter
of Beta Gamma Sigma, national busi
ness honorary fraternity, has in
itiated 22 new members including
one honorary and two faculty.
Hugh M. Mercer, of Atlanta, has
been given honorary membership In
the fraternity, while Dr. Robert R.
Dince, Jr., and Dr. Norman J. Wood,
both members of the faculty of the
College of Business Administration,
have been extended faculty member
ship.
Beta Gamma Sigma limits its mem
bership to undergraduates who are
in the upper ten per cent of their
class, graduate students in the up
per twenty per cent of their class, and
faculty and honorary members who
have demonstrated outstanding a-
chievement in business.
Graduate students elected are

Southeastern Air Seminar
Will Meet Here May 14-15
The Southeastern Air Seminar will
be held at the University May 14-15.
Private plane owners and pilots from
six states are expected to attend this
meeting.
The two-day event, which will fea
ture seminars on the latest develop
ments in equipment and flying regu
lations, will be highlighted by a big
air show at the Athens Municipal
Airport.
The seminar will be attended by
such celebrities as Beverly (Bevo)
Howard, Internationally famous stunt
pilot, and Igor Bensen, inventor of
the gyrocopter, a small, home-built
rotary- winged air-craft.
