Coeds Grace Candler Hall
In Maj or Dorm Turnover
By KKNNKTH IIOSWKM,
Caudler Hall, with its ever-changing status, will be occupied by
women this year.
Since being erected in 1901, the
dormitory has been used to house
both men and women and as an of
fice building. Men lived there un
til 1953, when the building was re
modeled and used as an office build
ing.. In 1956, the offices were
cleared out, and women moved into
the building. One year later, the
boys were back for another short
stay, and remained there until this
year. Sixty-seven upper class
women are living there now.
In 1926, Candler Hall was the
scene of a brawl between freshmen
living there and a group of sopho
mores living next door. The fresh
men stole a large picture of Myrna
Loy from the sophomores. In re
taliation, the sophomores came,
armed with paper cups filled with
ammonia, to retake their treasured
Possession. In the ensuing battle,
several men were hospitalized. The
freshmen kept the picture.

Rush Advisors Aid New Coeds
“A girl's best friend is her rush
advisor” might be the thought of
approximately 800 girls who went
through Georgia's annual fall rush
last week.
The seventeen rush advisors, who
temporarily gave up all their sorority
affiliations in order to lend a help
ing band to the prospective pledges,
were selected by Dean of Women
Edith Stallings last spring. They
lived in the women’s dormitories dur
ing Orientation Week in order to aid
the rusliees in every way possible.
Acting as both friend and advisor
to the rushees, these University
women were questioned about such
things as rush party format, appro
priate mode of attire, and the all
important matter of pledging.
Lorena Stoops, Alpha Chi Omega,
served as chairman of the rush ad
visors. The other advisors and their
sorority affiliation were Beverley
Brannan, Alpha Delta Pi; Jane Mal-
com, Alpha Gamma Delta; Lynn
Graves, Alpha Omicron Pi; Joann
