Field Narrows for Students
To Appear On College Bowl

on a nationally.televised quiz progruni.
Four of the eight students will he
chosen to participate In the CB8-
Teh vision program, "College Bowl,"
within the next few wepks. The con-
lost features students from two col
leges each week competing by an
swering questions on a variety of sub
jects.
The finalists, who were chosen
from a larger group selected by the
various deans, are Madge Field and
Leon Galls, Athens; Ous B. Turn-
hull III, Toccoa; llarell B. Bigner Jr.
Brunswick; Francis W. Rushing,
Savannah; Joseph C. Harris. At
lanta; Bill Dunaway, Marietta; and
Albert O. LeRoy, Thomson.
The students will appear on
WGTV, channel 8, at 8 p in. on Tues
day, Jan. 17, in a local .quiz pro
gram Dr. Frank Gibson, associate
professor In political science, will
be quizmaster at the session. Dr.
C. Jay Smith, director of the honors
program, !h the coach of the team.

Triquetra Meets On Monday
Triquetra, University organization of Independent Women, will
liavo its first meeting of the quarter Monday, January 23.
Charlsey Moon Gottshall, outgoing
president, said that programs for the
quarter will include a fashion show
and talks on "How to Choose Your
China.” In addition, she said, the
King of Hearts Banquet, big social
event of the quarter for Triquetra,
will be held in February.
All independent women are invited
to the meetings, to be held on al
ternate Mondays, Mrs. Gottshall said.
The meeting, which begins at 7
p.m. in Dawson Hall Lounge, features
the installation of the new president
and publicity chairman.

Fanning Gets
Man of Year

J. W. Fanning, University Agricul
tural Economics Head, has been
named 1960 Man of the Year in
vice to Georgia Agriculture by the
Progressive Farmer.
The announcement of the honor
is made in the magazine’s January
issue The magazine states, "Fan
ning has done more than any other
person to guide county agents and
their cooperating farmers in farm
program planning.”
Fanning is now chairman of
a University-wide committee for
establishing an Institute of Com
munity and Area Development. He
has been an Extension Service Econo
mist for more than 20 years.

Anne Brown, vice president of the
Forestry Wives Club, announced
plans for the winter quarter banquet
to be held Monday night at 7.
The meeting is at the home of Mrs.
H. H. Cobb, and at that time, new
officers will be installed. They are
Janet Bailey, president; Anne Brown
and Ann Worthington, vice presi
dents; Sylvia Matthews, secretary;
and Betty Collins, treasurer.
Ronald Paige, national field secre
tary for Alpha Zeta, agricultural
honorary, was speaker at the Janu
ary 12 meeting of the fraternity.
President Tom Maddox announced
at the meeting that plans are almost
complete for the annual Alpha Zeta
smoker, held annually during winter
quarter to honor outstanding students
on Ag Hill.

Mr. John L. Ruehle, a forest
nematologist with the U. S. Forest
Service is beginning research work
on tree diseases of Georgia. He is
located in the department of plant
pathology and plant breeding.
