APRIL 1
Forestry School To Sponsor
Annual Field Day Competition
Plans for the annual forestry field day are nearly completed, ac
cording to Bobby llateher, field day chairman.
The field day, which will be held
April 1 this year, is sponsored by the
Forestry Club, with competition be
ing limited to forestry students.
The annual competition has been
a tradition almost as long as the
forestry school has existed, but in
recent years it was greatly improved
by the organization of a conclave for
competition among all forestry
schools in the South. More than 20
schools have competed In the three
conclaves which have been held the
last three years.
The University of Georgia forestry
students hold eliminations on the
forestry field day in Athens.
Such events as wood and tree
identification, timber estimation, axe
throwing, log chopping, and rope
climbing are typical.
After eliminations are held on the
University campus, the winners repre
sent Georgia in the Southeastern Con
clave. Georgia, in three years of
competition, has won two first places
and one second place award in the
conclave.
Hatcher, Field Day Chairman for
the University, predicted that
Georgia would have a good team
this year, when the University of
Florida is host to the colorful event.
