Soon it will bethe time when the ardent pursuers of higher education cast aside their “horn-rims”
and don their tennis shoes and palm frond hats. They are ready to make their annual pilgimaffe to the
“Land of Beer and Pretzels.” You know that it must he spring vacation.
Some 30 or 40-thousand college
students seeking fun and relaxation,
drive, peddle, or hitch to Ft. I-auder-
dale, Fla., annually during spring
recess. Resides "Omars," linthoing
(on the beach, and beer at 15 cents
a throw, this year will bring an added
attraction. The first annual Ft. Laitd-
jerdale Spring Jazz Festival will be

of revenue in the entire stnte and

statement and at the same time have
a long-to-be remembered good time.

The name of this paradise in Day
tona Beach, and that in where the
boys are who attend colleges and
universities that operate on the
"quarter hour” systems.
When it’s arch-rival, "Lauder
dale" boasts about it’s elevation of
10 feet above sea level, Daytona
points to the beautiful, white sand
beach stretching before it for 23
miles. The beach Is 500 feet wide at
low tide and is famous for automobile
racing.
Daytona Beach is a thriving me
tropolis which is the result of an
incorporation of three cities—Day-
Ft. Lauderdale, known ns "Laud
erdale” by the the "ole pros” is a
quiet, exclusive residential area,
but once a year this peaceful haven
turns into a chaotic mixture of ber-
mndas. sweat-shirts, and beer mugs, i
“Lauderdale” Is a must for the col-1
legiate. and the natives realize this
fact. So in order not to repeat sltua- j
tions similar to Newport this past
summer, students are urged to buy
advance tickets for the Jazz Festival.
