Deal Receives Dean's List Honors

This week the Red and
Black spotlight falls on Emit
Bernard Deal, a senior from
Statesboro.
Deal, who has been on the
dean's list every quarter since
coming to Georgia, is major
ing in animal husbandry in the
College of Agriculture. Fol
lowing graduation, he plans to
enter graduate school at Iowa
State University.
Selected to Who’s Who, Deal
received the outstanding Jun
ior award in animal husban
dry and Is a member of Alpha
Zeta, honorary agriculture fra
ternity aiming to foster high
standards of scholarship, char
acter and leadership among its
members and promoting the
profession of agriculture.
Probably one of the busiest
members of Alpha Gamma Rho
fraternity, Deal also serves as
Ag Hill Council representative.
He is former treasurer of
Block and Bridle and is a mem
ber of the University Livestock
Judging team which recently
placed fourth in the annual
Southwestern Livestock Expo
sition at Fort Worth, Tex.
A graduate of Abraham
Baldwin Agricultural College,
Deal transferred to the Uni
versity of Georgia his junior
year. While at Abraham Bald
win, Emit was a member of
the track team and an honor
graduate, graduating in the
top 10 of his class.

enthusiast lists his hobbies as
horseback riding, fishing and
hunting, especially fox hunting.
When asked what he liked
most about the University,
Emit replied, "It gives me a
chance to meet many people
from different areas.”
He feels the greatest im
provement that the University
could make would be to correct
the parking situation.
"Having a car," he says,
“does not alleviate the walk
ing problem since it is difficult
to find a parking space.”

Dr. Rudolf Trumpy, Swiss
geologist, has been a visitor
of the University this week.
His visit is in connection
with a lecture tour of the
United States being sponsored
by the American Geological In
stitute. Arriving from Tulane
University, Dr. Trumpy lec
tures here this week and next
week he will journey to Prince
ton University.
Trumpy scheduled two lec
tures during his visit to the
University Geology Depart
ment. He spoke on the life his
tory of a mountain chain—the
Alps, at the Physics Audito
rium. Today he will deliver a
geology lecture at 6 p.m. in
the G-G-M Building.
Dr. Trumpy is a professor
of geology at the University
of Zurich and the Swiss Fed
eral Institute of Technology.
He has been on geological ex
peditions in the Sahara and in
East Greenland.

“Broncho” Billy Anderson,
the movies’ first cowboy, will
be seen in early film clips this
week on WGTV’s new series,
“Magic Lantern to the Stars.”
The series traces the history
of movie-making from Thomas
Edison to the present. It is
seen each Tuesday at 7:30
p.m.
NET Drama Festival, an
other new WGTV series, offers
“Killing the King” by Hugh
Ross Williamson this Thursday
at 9:30.
The play is a drama taken
from the British Civil War be
tween Charles I and Oliver
Cromwell.
International Film Festival,
Fridays, 9 p.m., presents “The
Seven Samurai,” a Japanese
film of 1956. This film, directed
by Akira Kurasawa, is a grand
prize winner at the Venice
Film Festival.
The story, in which seven
Samurai soldiers are hired by
a small village for protection
against bandits, inspired the
American film, "The Magnifi
cent Seven.”
Jazz Casual, Wednesdays,
8 p.m., features singer Carmen
McRae who demonstrates her
distinctive vocal style and also
gives her views of what a Jazz
singer Is.
Of interest to art lovers is the
program “The Unfolding Vi
sion” to be broadcast this
Tuesday at 10 p.m.
The major trends in painting

and sculpture during the past
10 years will be examined.
Each day, Monday through
Friday at 6:30 p.m., problems
of man and economy are exam
ined on the program, “The
American Economy.” Typical
programs are “Public Ap
proaches to Security,” “Labor

Non-Union.”
