Georgia Netters Beat Presbyterian
By DANNY STRICKLAND
The Georgia tennis team practically ran to a decisive 0-0
victory over Presbyterian College Saturday while their out-
conditioned opponents futily tried to keep up.
Dooley In Second Year
As Spring Drills Begin
Georgia spring football practice gets under way April
5, the same day that SEC coach of the year. Vince Dooley,
begins his second year as head coach of the Georgia litill-
This brings Georgia’s record
tor the season to 5-0. Last
week, in a three-day period,
March 19-21, the'Bulldogs tal
lied victories over Tennessee,
six games to three, the Univer
sity of Florida, 8-1, and the
Columbus Tennis Club, 8-1.
Then last Thursday, after a
rain delay, they defeated the
Athens Tennis Club, 7-2.
The Presbyterian team
seemed outmatched not only
in playing ability but also
in physical conditioning.
Mighty little but mighty,
Henry Feild, Georgia's top
college player, showed his
speed as he almost ran his
opponent. Bob Harris, to ex
haustion.
The most colorful player of
the afternoon was Chuck Har
ris, co-captain of the Georgia
team. With a disarming grin
that threatened to blind his
opponent and an easy, relaxed
forehand that belled the power
behind it, he easily defeated
Presbyterian’s Howard Letz-
ring, 6-3, 6-1.
Harris, however, was ap
parently not completely sat
isfied with ills playing
ability. When tie occasionally
missed what he considered
an easy shot he would seek
divine help with the mild
invoeational "God Almigh
ty!"
Harris teamed up with jun
ior Jim Causey of Davidson,
N. C., to defeat the Presby
terian team of Harrls-Letzring,
6-2, 6-1. Southpaw Causey
owns what tennis coach and
sports publicist Dan Magtll
calls one of the best overhead
smashes in the SEC and he
demonstrated its power Satur
day to the considerable dismay
of his Presbyterian opponents.
In Thursday’s match with
the Athens Tennis (Tub, the
key action occurred between
Feild uml ex-Georgia star
John Foster. Even though
better conditioned than his
older adversary. Fetid could
not quite match the truining
anil experience of Foster.
The match was Felld's first
loss of the season, tl-1, M-ti,
tl-4.
