DR. 8. W. PELLETIER,
head of the Department of
Chemistry, has been invited to
present a lecture on his work
before a special symposium on
"Selected Recent Advances in
Natural Products Chemistry,”
April 5-9 in Detroit, Mich.
Dr. Pelletier, one of eight
speakers invited for the sym
posium, is the only natural
products chemist representing
the South. The other speakers
come from California, Illinois,
Iowa, Michigan, Oregon and
Wisconsin.

ANNE SEA WELL, director
of placement and student aid
and Dr. Carl T. Eakin, chair
man of the marketing depart
ment, have been invited by the
Armstrong Cork Company to
attend a seminar on "Market
ing and Armstrong."
The seminar will be held
Wednesday and Thursday at
ttie Royal Orleans Hotel in
New Orleans.
Miss Seawell and Dr. Eakin
are among 48 guests, repre
senting 22 colleges and univer
sities from the Southern and
Southwestern states, invited to
attend the seminar.

to America, will address the
Georgia Committee on Chil
dren and Youth April 14 at
7 p.m. at the Georgia Center.

Office of Economic Oppor
tunity, headquarters for the
nationwide war against pover
ty. VISTA volunteers work in
urban slums, Job Corps camps,
migrant worker communities,
Indian reservations, schools,
hospitals and institutions for
the mentally ill and retarded.

The team will interview

Air Force Officer Training

famous formula is placed
near the center to direct the
viewer's eye to the triangles,
rertauglCK. and other geomet
ric forms.
The mural third from the
left (nearest the door) depicts
the studies that Involve living
organisms. The amoeba and tbe
egg in the upper center are
symbols of the origins of life.
This mural includes both the
physical and social sciences.
Tlie first murul on the
right (nearest the door) typ-
ifies the alumni of the Uni
versity. The squares and
other forms are symbolic of
the “many lines of business
that tlie alumni go Into."
Holbrook said.
The athletics of tlie Universi
ty are symbolized in the mural
in the center of the right side
of the museum. The mural de
picts the stadium and the track.
"The final mural has the flag
and colors of red and black that
are emblems of the University.”
Holbrook suid.
All tlie murals on the mu
seum wall are classified in the
art world as optical art. John
Canady, the New York Times
art critic, calls this "a new art
form thnt apparently is going to
take over 1965 as its own."
