Georgia fans can be justifiably proud of the Bulldogs
and their recent record in basketball.
The Dogs, unfortunately, had an unlucky night with
Vanderbilt, but the game with Kentucky showed that we
have a championship quality team at the University.
RUPP WORRIED
Sportswriters from several Georgia newspapers (and one
from Lexington who attends all Kentucky basketball
games) agreed that they had never seen Coach Adolph
Rupp so worried during any basketball game in recent
years. Claude Sullivan, sportscaster for the Kentucky
basketball network, places Georgia as the No. 2 team they
have played this year, second only to St. Louis.
Rupp—after the game—admitted that he felt lucky to get
•out of the Coliseum alive. From such an imminent author
ity on SEC basketball that was indeed praise for a deserv
ing Bulldog team.
Kentucky Head Coach Adolph Rupp quietly points
out to his players the interesting fact that the Bulldogs
have almost tied the score. He is, perhaps, discussing
the theosophic nature of basketball played against the
Bulldogs, especially in Athens. A picture taken after
the first overtime was ruined by the extreme heat of
the subject.

In just one short year Coach Ken Rosemond has taken
a team which could only be described as mediocre and
built it into a Southeastern Conference power.
DeTULLIO
Freshman Coach Gene DeTullio has started his fourth
year as Georgia’s Bullpup coach in his usual pattern of
success. With a 4-1 record for this season, his record for
the last three years now stands at 33-7.
The Bulldogs have only six more home games this year,
with ten games on the. road. University students should
take advantage of the opportunity to see these excellent
lessons in championship play.

The Tulane Green Wave will
roll into Athens Saturday, Jan.
15, to renew another well
known SEC rivalry.
The Greenies tower tall with
Craig Spitzer, the tallest player
in the Southeastern Conference.
At 7-1, Spitzer Is one of the
few players who can contain
Vandy’s powerhouse, Clyde
Lee.
Another strongman on the
Tulane team is A1 Andrews, a
sharpshooting guard who was
one of the Southeastern Con
ference’s finest sophomores
last year. He made the All-SEC
Sophomore and Academic
teams and was second team
All-SEC by both the Associated
Press and United Press Inter
national.
Although losing to Vander
bilt and Tennessee this year,
the Greenies led both teams at
halftime. The “last-half forte"
Bulldogs should provide a dis
concerting counterpoint for Tu
lane.
Following the Tulane game
the ’Dogs will travel to our
neighboring trade school af
filiate to face a Yellow Jacket
team which found itself with
out a sting at their last en
counter with Georgia.
Although Georgia Tech Is no
longer a member of the SEC,
the tradition of Tech-Georgia
games can alwnys he consid
ered sufficient stimulus to in
sure a maximum effort from
both teams.
This game will be televised
on area TV, and has been re
scheduled at 7:30 p.m. to avoid
conflict with Bob Hope’B
Christmas Show.

Doolei], Rosemond Tops;
Scholarships Increased
By DAN H. MAGILL
Sports Information Director
More mul more impartial observers in collegiate athletic
circles are saying that the University of Georgia has two
of the very brightest young coaches in the land directing
its football and basketball programs.
Piloting the Bulldog foot
ball team to two consecutive
winning seasons, immediately
following three straight losing
campaigns; was a masterful
accomplishment by Vince Dool
ey in his head coaching debut.
Ken Rosemond, In hlB first
basketball season with the
Bulldogs, has fashioned a team
that Is one of the best dis
ciplined In the SEC.
Their performance against
Kentucky Monday night was
the finest we have ever seen
in over 30 years of watching
Bulldog hnsketball. Imagine
not allowing an Adolph Rupp-
conched team a single field
goal attempt in the first over
time period! Thnt takes some
ball-handling and defense!
Athletic Director Joel Eaves
is equally interested in the
programs of all other Bulldog
athletic teams. He has very
much increased the scholarship
who again received A-pluses In
all his courses!
It does seem that the Bull
dogs are entering Into their
most glorious era of a long
history in intercollegiate ath
letics.

He wants to see every Bulldog

Eaves Is also very much con
cerned about the athletes on
scholarship doing well In the
classroom, and they nre suc
cessful in this field, too. Fifty-
three athletes had scholastic
averages of 80 or above during
the fall quarter, headed, of
