Seem strange? It was almost
a reality. About 1906, because
of Its unsafe condition, the
building was condemned and
vacated. It stood unoccupied
for a little more than three
yenrs, during which Its removal
was plnnned.
However, University alumni
in the state legislature came to
the defense of Old College, and
when 1909 appropriations were
announced, a $10,000 face
lifting Job was awarded to the
fast-decaying structure.
Ry far tho oldest building
on campus, Old College was

completed In 1805 after four
yenrs of work. Plans for the
three-story, colonial structure,
the same as those used for
Connecticut Hall at Yale Uni
versity, were brought to Geor
gia by Josinh Meigs, first presi
dent of the University. Meigs
supervised the actual construc
tion himself.

most colorful figures, some of
whom have gone on to become
known nationally. A plaque on
the northeast corner of the

these people: "In this room

\s an old timer. I’m blabbing to you to teacli you how to
tell enjoyable foods. First conies the quality of meats and
Ingredients. Second anil iiiuch more important is WHO pre
pares that Food for you—Ills experience and his Interest.
I'liird, of course, is the prlee of that food. If It’s too cheap,
It men- that the quality is not there. If It’s too high, It
means that you’re luiying for someone’s mistakes.
HERE AT V\Fold's you get quality plus your money’s
worth—Because the food is prepared by the owner (In
person); no employee (lrres|M>ns(hle) Is flapping your food
around. The food that you’ll eat. Your foods are always uni
form—not burned one time and raw the next time. Just
like mother’s rooking; SHE KNOWS HOW.
