“The Master Builder." a
play by noted Norwegian play-
write Henrik Ibsen, will be
presented by the University
Theatre on Nov. 19. 20. 21 and
22.
Directed by Dr. Carla
Waal, the play deals in such
controversial issues as the
conflict between idealism and
practicality and the genera
tion gap.
Taken from a new transla
tion by Rolf Fjeklde. the pro
duction will approach Ibs
en’s work in an experimental
way.

son Kesler have abandoned
the realistic mode of the play
to expand its scope. Rather
than employing realistic de
tail associated with turn-of-
the-centurv Norway, they will
generalize the play's visual
background
One of the bases to this
experimental approach to the
play will be the use of slides
and projections as a backdrop
to the action. Halvard Sol-
ness, the master builder or
architect in the play, has de
voted his life to the creation
of buildings: images of relat
ed architectural decor will be
projected behind the actors as
an expansion of the text's
meaning
As a result, the setting will
be starkly functional, and the
universe of the play will be
found in open and unconfined
space. Only in the Victorian
furniture of the Solness house
hold will time and locale be
suggested.
Stell said one of the prima
ry functions of the set design
is to provide neutral and
changing acting areas, and
lighting and projection will
reinfroce the mood created by
the actors.
All performances start at 8
p.m in the Fine Arts Audito
rium. Tickets are $2

Signs all over campus ad

They read in bold letters. "Do
the dead return????"
This was the response
printed by one University stu

back. And I'm glad he did."

A University freshman
made a date with a coed for 7:
JO p.m. one night recently,
and at 7:45 p.m. he called to
say he would be late. The coed
decided they could never
make to where they were going
on time, but said she would
meet him on the bridge by
Sanford Stadium to save time.
That was line, and when the
two at last met on the bridge,
the boy greeted his dale,
“You know, this is the first
time I’ve ever picked a girl up
on the bridge."

One coed has a bit more
trouble getting out of bed in
the morning than most peo
ple. When her roommate
leaves for her own second pe
riod class, she turns on the
radio, the lights and opens the
blinds.
“She wants me to,” the
roommate explains. “If I
didn’t, then she never would
get up.”
