presented on the steps of the Coliseum Sunday at 3 p m The 90
piece group prereeded this annual concert with its 12th annual
spring lour, which covered all of Georgia
A special feature of the concert Sunday will be a section per
formed by the University s Wind Ensemble. a group of superior
musicians chosen from the ranks of the parent Redcoat Band
Highly competitive auditions determine the membership in this
ensemble
THK CONCERT, titled A Program of American Music,
features a wide variety of music which is a part of America s
rich heritage Besides arrangements of families songs, the
band will be featured in such contrasting works as "Variations
on America by ( harles Ives. "An Killngton Portrait" by
Ployd Werle and "The Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Phil
ip Sousa
The concert will he the final performance for Jimmy Mc-
Killip, band captain and jazz trumpet soloist often heard at
half-time in the fall
The Redcoats will also perform at the dedication of the Ri
chard B Russell Utilization lab and a half-time in Saturday s
annual G Day hxitball game
Though the concert is patriotically oriented. Dancz com

Kennedy Jr Foundation Stu
dent Awards the International
Awards and the Kennedy Fel
lowship in Medical Ethics
The Foundation Student
Award is aimed at undergradu
ate and graduate level students
who through the stimulation of
their creative and academic
talents, might make a valuable
contribution in the prevention,
detection, diagnosis, treat
ment, care, education, train
ing. employment or under
standing of the mentally re
tarded
Awards of $1,000 first prize
and $500 second prize will be
given for new research or origi
nal applications of existing
knowledge in the fields of medi
cine, education, physical edu
cation and recreation, and reli
gion as they apply to the men
tally retarded
THK ORIGINAL concept, to
be presented in less than 2,000
words, will be judged primarily
on creativity and originality but
adequate substantiation of the
proposed concept must be prov
ided
The International Awards
Program has given recognition
to outstanding scientists and
laymen for their work in three
general areas of mental retar
dation
The Scientific Research
Award is given to an investiga
tor who has made a valuable
contribution to knowledge of
mental retardation in the biol
ogical and behavioral sciences
TTie Service Award is given
to the individual or group devel
oping outstanding programs in
the identification, care, reha
bilitation or education of the
mentally retarded
THE LEADERSHIP Award
is given to a civic leader, public
official, author or any other
person whose activities on be

Non-returnable entries must
include a curriculum vita and

nominee, photos, and letters of

In recognition of the growing
ethical complexities facing
modern medicine in such vital
areas as artificial organs and
transplantations, genetic sur
gery and abortions, the Joseph
P Kennedy Jr Fellowship in
Medical Ethics was initiated
It attempts to provide a
unique combination of academ
ic disciplines in the resolution of
the complexities, with a partic
ular emphasis on the issues
involved in mental retardation
THE FOUNDATION will
provide complete support for
post-residency medical doctors
with experience in mental re
tardation from pediatrics,
medicine, neurology, psychia
try, surgery and obstetrics
toward a Ph D degree in eth
ics. philosophy or theology
Similarly, candidates with
advanced degrees in ethics or
religion will be supporteu
through medical school and be
expected to coninue through
residency with some experi
ence in mental retardation
Deadlines for receipt of the
papers for the Student and In
ternational awards is Dec. 1.
