Kickers boom it
To the left Georgia field goal kicker Peter Rajeeki fol
lows through on a long attempt in practice. Rajeeki is a
5-9, 175-pound soccer style hooter and a native son of
Germany. After coming to America, as a senior at Mar
ietta's Sprayberry High, he hit 33 of 35 PAT's kicking
with his toes but has since converted to soccer-style kick
ing Head coach Vince Dooley plans to use the Bootin
Teuton" for field goals of more than 40 yards
Sophomore punter Sam Bums works out below The
untested kicker from Columbus' Hardaway High School
is left-footed and will try to fill the extremely large shoes
of graduated Spike Jones. He was the freshman team
punter last season and before the Tulane game. Dooley
said that Bums was getting enough height on his kicks to
allow decent coverage
The third member of the kicking trio is an other sopho

School At Avondale. Braswell received national recogni

field goals through the uprights. A left-footed kicker like

and has continued u) do so since
the unwieldy plaster brace was
removed last Friday
When Lake was first injured,
it was not thought to be very
serious because he was able to
walk off the field on his own
power and a coach even had
him run some after practice
But trainer Warren Morris
kept an eye on the bad leg. and
the next day a cast extending
from slightly above the ankle to
well over the knee was put on
THE INJURY itself was of a
freakish nature Lake caught a
pass while leaping in the air
and happened to come down on
his foot in such a way as to
strain the ligaments in his
knee
His coming out of the cast
party was held two weeks and a
day after he had been fitted
His recovery was speeded by
some dedicated exercising dur
ing this time
Five hundred times a day
Lake would raise the leg while
lying flat on his back He would
then turn over on his side and
lift it two hundred more times
each day Isometric-type exer
cises to keep the muscles toned
inside the plaster casing were
the next order of the day.
THE FORMER Triple-A
high school back of the year in
Georgia can now be seen at
times on the practice field with
the Bulldogs
When Lake does finally re
turn. he will be faced with a
battle for the starting fullback
slot with Robert Honeycutt,
another of the Dogs' "Kiddie
Korps".
Now unburdened by the cast,
the promising soph began run

hopefully of being able to play
