men in Japan's ruling party
want to change the “no war"
clause in the constitution that
America imposed on their

They say the famous Article

war forever, should be revised
to give Japanese the right to
defend themselves.

Carter to direct
tutoring program
Kyle Carter will become
director of UGA’s tutorial
program on June I. Carter, a
graduate student from Athens,
will succeed Michael Johnston,
who is leaving for Duke
University after he graduates
this quarter as valedictorian of
the senior class.
The tutorial program is
centered in 7|q Psychology
and offers students help in
math, physics, Fnglish,
physical science, chemistry,
biology, and foreign languages.
The program, which was set
up with University funds
several years ago, is free to all
students. The tutors, who are
mostly undergraduate honor
students, give individual
instruction in most of the basic-
courses taught on campus.
Any student can make an
appointment to meet with a
tutor by calling 542-5436 or by
coming to room 219.
The program will be
operating on a limited basis
this summer, with help in math
and English made available
Full-scale operation of the
program will resume in the fall.

Athens Jaycees to sponsor
drive to collect toothbrushes
A campaign to collect
toothbrushes and money for
dental clinics in Bangladesh
will be sponsored this week by
the Athens Jaycees.
Athens dentist Dr. Barry
Simmons, who spends each
summer providing free dental
care in underdeveloped areas,
will help staff the Bangladesh
clinics. According to Dr.
Simmons, “Getting the
toothbrushes and establishing
the clinics will he the first step

problems in Bangladesh, but
one facet of good overall
health is dental health.”
“You can’t get everything
done at one time,” he said.
“You just have to coordinate
the medical aspects and keep
plugging away.”
Simmons said that
contributions for the
toothbrush fund will be
accepted at Citizens and
Southern banks throughout
Georgia. Many restaurants in
Athens will also serve as
collection points this week.
