It’s a lot of sports car fora little price.
These days you don7 have to took
very tar to find a small, economical car
But to find one that's economical
and a pure-bred. SCCA-winmng
sports car—well, that leaves you a
choice ot about one
MG Midget,
Just the right size for you. your
friend and enough gear to see you
through a weekend
You'll discover that the real
meaning of sports motoring" has
nothing to do with V4-mile strips at
abandoned airports
It has to do with roads that take
to the hills where the scenery and
fresh air are Roads that turn and twist
and meander down the other side,
faithful to the contours of nature
That s where terms like rack-and-
pinion steering. Iront disc brakes,
race-seasoned suspension and a
close-ratio 4-speed gearbox, start
making sense to the uninitiated.
And you'll wonder how you
ever drove without lull sports car
instrumentation an electric tachometer,
separate gauges for oil pressure,
water temperature and fuel level
There's even a trip odometer.
MG Midget sports other standards
like a 1275 c.c overhead valve
engine, mag-style wheels, radial ply
tires, leather steering wheel cover,
reclining bucket seats, full carpeting
and three-blade windshield wipers.
What do you pay for this small
economical sports car? Of all the
proven winners now in national SCCA
sports car racing, it's the one with
the lowest price tag

Busing avoids problems
of transferring bicycles
By LESLIE THORNTON
Bicycling has become a
popular means of touring
places for vacations as well as
a means of transportation.
But getting your bike to
wherever you are v»4t+m«tp or
staying this summer can be a
real hassle, especially if you
YOU CAN SHIP your bike
in advance of your departure,
when you leave or after
leaving. If you ship it in
advance, the busline’s re
ceiving agent will hold it for
you on a “will-call” basis up
to three days without charge.
After that, there is a 25
cents per day storage fee.
TRAVEL
are driving and have a trunk
filled with Jethro Tull al
bums, your waterpipe, ecol
ogy posters and all your
other indispensible living gear.
To avoid the major prob
lem of transporting your
transportation, you might
consider shipping your bi
cycle by bus.
Three buslines use the
Athens terminal: Greyhound,
Southeastern Stages (between
Atlanta and Savannah only),
and Trailways (to Macon
only).
According to their shipping
policies, bikes can be shipped
or received through any of
their terminals or agencies
that handle package type
express.
A bike shipped 300 miles
or less will usually arrive the
same day, according to the
buslines. However, they
normally provide overnight
service for distances up to
500 miles when no transfer is
involved.
Shipping charges should
not exceed S7-SI0 for dis
tances of 100-150 miles,
according to the buslines.
After that, the fee rises
slowly in proportion to the
distance, so the further you
ship the lower the per-mile
cost.
THE BUSLINES also em
phasize that you are pro
tected against damage or loss

by including valuation cover
age in the basic shipping
charge. This coverage
amounts to aboit S50. And
additional coverage is avail
able.
To pack a bike for ship
ment by bus, or by any
other mode of transportation,
the buslines recommend re
moving the bike’s front wheel
and tying it to the frame.
Handlebars should be turned
sideways end one or both of
the pedals inward. A small
wrench should be all that's
needed for this prepacking.
Put the bike in a card
board carton cut to fit
closely around it. Inside,
secure and insulate the bike
with crumpled newspapers.
Tie the box shut with rope
or cord. When packed, no
bike part should protrude
from the carton.
The buslines stress that the
front wheel must be removed
if the carton is to stay
within the size limits set by
tariff regulations. They also
said that their tariffs do not
allow them to carry un
packaged bikes.
IF YOU'RE looking for a
couple of bike touring ideas
consider these suggestions
from the tour departments of
the buslines:
Visit the national parks.
Many of the most scenic
parts are inaccessible by car
but open to bikes. Bicycling
is permitted on all park roads
open to cars. For instance,
Cape Cod National Park has
a 12-mile system of bike
trails.
Bikes are encouraged in St.
Augustine, Florida, too. A
bicycle trail leads from the
city to Cypress Gardens.
Ohio and Wisconsin now
have hundreds of miles of
rural bike paths. Most of
them start in medium-size
cities that offer good hotel
accomodations and rest
aurants.
For additional information
on shipping your bike, call
549-2255 the Athens terminal
which handles all three bus
lines.
