Food services develop new plan
By AMORY BROWN
The University’s food ser
vice has developed a new
meal plan for next year.
The meal plan revision is
the result of three years of
financial losses in the cafeter
ias. according to Auxiliary
Services Director J. W Broad-
hurst.
Intended to “give substan
tial savings to students who
participate in the program,"
the new meal plan was
devised by W F, Gerspacher
Morphine" and Townes followed with
version of "Dead Flowers.” By then
everyone in theroom was beyond speech.
It was one of those nights. Monday |
evening people came in from as far away &
as Augusta to hear Mr. V Z
Townes Van Zandt is one of the most ^
talented performers, especially lyrically, to $
emerge in a long, long time And, he’s $
unbelievably friendly. Congratulations to $

of this calibre. »
NEIGHBORS, this tunc they tell me it
is going to happen Wet Willie is going to
be at Legion Field tonight. The Union
tried extra-hard to get ’em back after the
abortive Bacchus job I think I can say
safely that a lot of us will be ready.
The musical opportunity of a blue
moon, no pun, is coming Tuesday night.
Muddy Waters and his band will perform
at Legion Field from K to 10 p m.
It’s not enough to say that Muddy ijS-

Waters is one of the greatest and there
are only two entities in contemporary
music I would apply that teim to blues
men alive today. He’s influenced the
current music scene at least as much as
anyone else Tuesday night is gonna be a
little bit of history for those of you who
pause a little unconsciously when “Hoo-
chic C'oochic Man” or “Rolling Stone” is
heard
If all goes well the Terrible Trio (Robb
Holmes, Dick Blackman, and your truly)
will put together an hour's appreciation of
Muddy Waters’ music on SWOL’s Electric
Circles Monday night shortly after mid
night.
It’s said that Muddy Waters brought the
house down at the recent Student Union
Entertainers’ Exposition in Kansas City. It
is not hard to understand why.

TOWNES VAN ZANDT WARMS UP LISTENERS AT MUSICAL TRUCKINS HAVEN’
Fresh from Nashville recording sevsion. artist drew listeners from Augusta
“There will be substantial
savings to students who use
one of these plans instead of
cash. There can be a 25 per
cent savings over the year
with the 20 meal plan
compared to the cashplan,”
Broadhurst said. “Anyone us
ing the 20 meal plan will
save $212.00 over the cash
plan.”
GERSPACHER said the
plan would he optional to all
students and those wishing to
eat in the cafeterias on a
daily basis will pay a set rate
for their meals. They are
breakfast, 85 cents, lunch
$1.45. and dinner $1.65.
"There will not be much
savings, if any, to these
students,” Gerspacher said.
Broadhurst said that the
absence factor is the main
area that will help the new
food service because the
savings of a student missing a
meal will enable the cafeter
ias to serve meals at a
reduced rate.
He also said that the
students would have to miss
over 52 meals per quarter on
the 15 meal plan and 71
meals per quarter on the 20
meal plan to lose money
with the new program.
Gerspacher said that lie
program here has been pat
terned after one at the
University of Tennessee,
where students get all they
can eat, have special ice
cream nights, and a promise
of consistently good, warm
food.
“WE WILL HAVE a news
letter to send out which will
answer questions students
have and we will do every
thing in our power to keep
the food good and warm so
that we can keep the stu
dents eating in the caf
eterias," Broadhurst said. Ger
spacher said the food service
would try when more fin
ancially able to hire as many
students as possible, not only
giving them serving jobs but
giving them jobs that would
let them get valuable training
in food management sit
uations.
The food service has put
out a small paper to answer
questions and established a
phone to call (542-1256) for
suggestions, comments and
complaints.
