FRATERNITY MEMBER TAKES OFF DURING
Gamma Anchor Splash
TAU KAPPA Epsilon placed
second in the Splash with 42
points Chi Psi came in third
with 28. Sigma Alpha Epsilon
was fourth with 27 and Fiji
and Theta Chi tied for fifth
place. Chi Phi, TKE and Chi Psi
all took lome trophies from
the event
In the Ugly Sea Creature
contest, Fiji’s giant aluminum
foil fish took first place. TKE’s
entry, a green monster with
webbed hands and feet and a
spiked head, won second and
Lambda Chi Alpha’s
mud-covered member took
third.
A disagreement arose over
the rules during the Granny
Gown Race, in which Alpha
Tau Omega was disqualified
because one member helped
another out of the pool. The
rules stated that “the
participant gets out and takes
off the gown without
assistance.'* The judges
interpreted the rule as meaning
the participant must both get
out of the pool and take off
the gown without assistance,
but the ATO’s thought
otherwise.
CHI PSI came out the winner
in that race, with Tau Epsilon
Phi second and Sigma Alpha
Epsilon third.
The Kickboard Race, where
fraternity members swam
across the pool with styrofoam
kickboards between their legs,
saw several broken kickboards,
but no one was disqualified.
Phi Kappa Theta won the race,
with Chi Psi and Theta Chi
taking second and third places.
Each participant swam across
the pool carrying a ping pong
ball in a spoon in his mouth in
the Ping Pong Ball race. Sigma
Chi won it, and Lambda Chi
came in second.
The secret event turned out
to be an underwater relay
requiring two members from
each fraternity to swim the
width of the pool under water.
For the winners in each of
the ten events, see the winners’
box below.
Water and sunshine, a little
rain and a lot of cheering,
dripping wet granny gowns and
broken kickboards. Those were
some of the sights and
sounds of the second annual
Delta Gamma Anchor Splash
held Sunday at Legion Pool.
And for the second year in a
row, Chi Phi fraternity came
out on top in the swimming
event, in which 16 fraternities
competed.
The weather cooperated
during most of the Splash, but
the rains came about halfway
through the event. A shower
which lasted about 10 minutes
scared away most of the crowd
of about 200 that had gathered
to watch the swimmers. But
the swimmers themselves were
undaunted.
Chi Phi placed first in four of
the 10 events the medley
relay, the crawl relay, the
underwater relay and the free
style. They took one
second place and tied for fourth
in another event, to capture a
winning 49 points.
