Films not for the squeamish
By LARRY ESTES
and STEVE MYERS
0tl6 Preminger's career has
been one of “hit-and-miss”
from the excellent Laura to the
snoring loser Such Good
Friends. The consensus of
opinion is that Preminger does
not simply stumble upon
successes: he only tries so
many times and in various
ways that the odds are against
him on occasion.
In 1971, Preminger tound
himself on the short end of the
national critics' stick His Tell
Me That You Love Me, Junie
Moon received few favorable
reviews from film critics, but
even the favorable ones gave
their readers the impression
that Junie Moon was a
mondo-perverto story of a love
affair involving a clean-cut

The Classic City Chorus,
35-45 members, 25 of whom are
Univesity related, perform all
over the area donating their
earnings to charity. The
Crackerland Four Man Singing
Team is one of the many
ensembles in the all-male
chorus who perform a cappel-
la, depending solely on the four
distinctive parts of tenor, lead,
baritone and bass to produce
their golden tones.
The "Upper Eschelon” from
Spartanburg and the "Dog
wood City Music Committee"
of Atlanta will be joining the
chorus along with other top
quartets in the Dixie District
Much of the concert Satur
day night will feature modern
songs including an arrange
ment of “Hello Dolly." The
group's style is informal and
you may expect a little bit of
the "ham" to prevail as the
quartet cuts-up and tells jokes

thrills by watching his date
disrobe in a cemetery and then
pouring battery acid on her
fare.
DON'T GET ME wrong —
this does happen in the film,
but it is only background for
Junie Moon’s character. You
see, Junie Moon (played by
Liza Minelli, who just happen
ed to win an Oscar last week)
ends up in a hospital, having
work done on repairing her
disfigured face, and decides
that men and love are no good
The doctors cannot quite
succeed in fixing her face, but
after all they can do, Junie
Moon leaves the hospital a
“freak" (in the literal sense)
Not wishing to face the
intolerant world alone, she
takes along two other freaks
from the hospital and the three
band together to break back
into society. One of Junie
Moon's partners is a young
man with a bodily disorder
that is causing his nervous
system to slowly deteriorate.
He soon finds himself drawn to
Junie Moon, although she
doesn't care to hear about
love, as we have already
discovered The other partner
is a liberated homosexual
male, paralyzed from the waist
down, who is not quite so
involved with such things, but
very preoccupied with enjoying
life as he can.
The film beautifully express
es the plight of the physical
freak in a middle class society.
It is not perverse at all, either,
so I highly recommend it at
any rate. Preminger screened
the film at the Atlanta Film
Festival last summer to a
highly appreciative audience.
and expressed his irritation
about the original release and

cludes (besides Minelli) Ken
Howard, Robert Moore. James
Coco, and Fred Williamson.
Pete Seeger opens the film
hiking through a bunch of
redwoods singing "Old Devil
Time," setting a terrific mood.
Liza Minelli fans should see
the film to see when she “paid
hei dues" in Hollywood.
Moreover, everyone should see
the film because it has not
been very easy to see since its
release and it is much better
than most of the dribble in
town nowadays.
Tell Me That You Love Me,

through Saturday at 7 and 9:30

In response to questioning
about the University’s day
care center near the Continu
ing Education Center, both
candidates said they supported
the student government funded
child care effort but charged
each other with not giving full
support.
Hughes said, in replying to
accusations that he failed to
support the center last year
when he voted against a 320,000
increase in funds for it, that he
did vote for the revised budget
since he felt the first budget
was too high.
But the Coalition candidates
said that funds, which included
a $1,000 salary increase for
director Myra Klein, would be
used for one time capital
improvements to enable the
center to be accredited. Klein's
salary increase, despite
President Nixon's wage freeze,
was necessary to compensate
for the $6,000 cut she took in
coming to Georgia, they

Powell told the group they
were welcome to stay on
campus and were free to
discuss their organization with
interested persons, but said
they must stop soliciting and
Selling immediately.
"The point of contention was
not the presence of the
individuals, but the solicitation
of funds " Powell said.
Mellman called the regula
tion "reactionary” and a
“direct attack against student
rights." He claimed the ruling
is "used at the whim of the
administration and is directed
expressly against radical orga
nizations to keep them off the
campus." The Traveling Team
of Young Socialists has been
all over the southeast, Mell-
man said, “but this is the first
time we have run up againsl
this.”
Powell explained that the
regulation was a policy of the
Board of Regents, and applied
to all schools within the
University of Georgia system.
