Steve Saunders said that he
had discussed the impound

their arguments." Saunders
said he had been discussing
two issues with the committee:
He said the issues were, “One,
if Peacock drops the charges
tonight, can he bring them up
again tomorrow: two, will they

MOVIE REVIEWS
Lolita' begins mini-festival
By LARRY ESTES
Few people will disagree
thal Peter Sellers is one of the
world's most competent come
dy actors. Contemporary crit
ics feel pretty good about the
capability of comedy writer
Terry Southern (Dr. Strange-
love. Blue Movie) also. The
collaboration of the two in The
Magic Christian made an
awful lot of news before its
release, but the movie had
minimal success at the box
office.
I can’t figure out why.
Possibly, a story leaked out
that the allegory of homosexu
ality was "gross" and “in bad
taste," but it's not offensive in
context; in fact, it's pretty
funny seeing the reactions In
the subtleties of the players in
the film as well as the
audience
Southern's more specific
target for extreme satire is
greed "Everyone has his
price" is a point well driven
home. To clue you in on the
many situations would spoil
the effect, so let's all consider
it a Laff-riot The laughs are
killers, so don't miss The
Magic Christian this Friday

I II also mention that it was
photographed by Geoffrey Uns-
worth who did 2(M)l: A Space
Odyssey and won an oscar this
year for photographing Caba
ret. an oscar that was
deserved (an unusual occur
rence). For all you cult
worshippers. Ringo Starr is
second-billed and Raquel
Welch appears for a minute.
Monday night we begin our
Stanley Kubrick mini-festival
i we originally planned it to be
longer) with his 1962 film
version of the "novel that
could not be filmed:" Vladimir
Nabokov's l.olita. The story
concerns the obsession of
Humbert, a middle aged man
iJames Mason), for a four-
teen-year-old nymphet (Sue
Lyoni and the extent that he
goes to get her into bed.
Unfortunately, the Legion of
Decency carefully supervised
the production to ensure that
none of us were corrupted, so
Kubrick toned down the erotic-
aspect of Humbert's obsession
to ordinary (gee!) love. Don't
worry though, it's still hilari
ous and even a bit sentimental
(toward poor Humbert) Peter
Sellers and Shelley Winters
star also Lolita will be shown
Monday night at 8 only

the Student Senate, said last
night the senate might meet
depending on the outcome of
these meetings, if they con
elude satisfactorily we won’t
meet, if they don’t, we will.”
The purpose of the senate
meeting, he said, would be to
“discuss this issue There have
been many people shouting.
but no one has sat down to
calmly come to a decision. We
want to find out what the
senate's consensus on the issue
is.”
Many of the senators in
Memorial last night said they
felt a meeting was necessary
to discuss the “judiciary
overstepping its bounds.’’
