under new management

Between The Hedges", now
officially “The Hedges." a
popular Athens nightspot will
be reopening soon
The club has been closed
eight weeks for extensive re
modeling and enlarging The
new owner. Gary Paul, and
new managers. Blane Defor
and Jimmy Kscoe are from
Athens and took over The
Hedges" four months ago.
Both managers and the owner
have done much of the remod
eling themselves.
The color scheme throughout
the club is red and black A
game room has been added
which contains two foosball
tables, a bowling game and an
electric tennis game A forty-
five toot horseshoe bar. made
of fieldstone. is located next to
the game room. Two split level
sections, also made of field-
stone. are near the bar and
contain booths, tables and
chairs About thirty-five
square feet of space has been
added to the lower level for
dancing

awarded a scholarship as an outstanding student in agricultural
economics by the Georgia Society of Farm Managers and Rural
Appraisers.
TOM JACKSON, former program director of Athens radio
station WGAU. is the new broadcast editor in the University's
public relations office
DR. ANN E. JEWETT, former chairperson of the physical
education graduate faculty at the University of Wisconsin, has
been named chairperson of the University division of health,
phvsical education and recreation.
HIRAM G. I.AREW III. a senior majoring in Horticulture at
the University, is the recipient of a National Alpha Zeta Scholar
ship as an outstanding undergraduate agricultural student.
Dlt. ARDEN D. I.EA, Professor of Entomology, recently
returned from Europe where he attended and gave papers at the
Third International Congress of Parasitology in Munich, the
International Conference on Regulation of Insect Reproduction at
the Liblice Castle near Prague: and Copenhagen, where he gave
a seminar in the Zoology Department and Laboratories of
Copenhagen University

ges at least once or twice a
month.
All bands will make an effort
to honor requests from the
crowd “We want to cater to
people It they want opera,
we’ll have an opera singer."

The Hedges will In* open
from noon to 1:00 a.m. Monday
through Friday and until mid
night on Saturday. The band
will start playing around 9:00
p in. on these nights. During
weekends there will be a cover
charge “Happy Hour", featur
ing reduced prices on all
mixed drinks and draft beer,
will be Monday through Satur
day from 12:00 to 0:30. The
Hedges will also serve short-
order meals in addition to
drinks.
The Hedges is located in
Normaltown on Prince Avenue
behind “Allen’s Hamburgers "

foods. ' the staples of meal
skipping students, can contri
bute to nutritional deficiencies
and bulges around the middle.
However, several University
programs are designed to help
those with diet problems.
A DIET clinic is sponsored
by the University Health Ser
vices. in addition to slimnas-
tics and conditioning programs
ottered by the Physical Educa
tion department. Special food
and nutrition courses are
sources of information for non
home economics majors inter
ested in developing better eat
ing habits.
"We have found that most
students come to the Univer
sity with normal weight, but
when they get up here and
have to fend for themselves,
they don’t want to spend a lot
ot time preparing meals and
end up going to places for
quick ones." said Mary A.
Harrington, coordinator of
clinical nutrition with Health
Services.
She explained that students
consume greasy, high tat foods
instead of a well-balanced nu
tritional variety, thus becom
ing overweight and often ill
The diet clinic, which began
about five years ago. is open to
any registered student with
sessions beginning today.
