capital of Binh Dinh Province, fell without a fight. So did
Tuy Hoa, 44 miles to the south and the capital of Phu Yen

the last to go
The Communists now control 15 provinces — about
two-thirds of the South Vietnamese territory.
Military sources said Communist tanks swept to the edge
of Nha Trang this morning and that Maj Gen Pham Van

having to prove negligence on the part of United.
The Boeing 737 aircraft was en route to Midway Airport
from Washington. D C., when it crashed into a house on the
Chicago’s South Side, killing 43 persons aboard, including
Kep. George Collins. D-Ill.. and the wife of Watergate

Health service set up
ATLANTA »UPI» — Gov George Busbee Tuesday
announced the appointment of 28 representatives of
medical and health planning groups to assist in the
federally-mandated task of dividing the state into health
service fields
A spokesman for Busbee said Congress recently amended
the Public Health Service Act to require that each state
select health service areas by May 3
The changes in the law portend tighter planning for
health service needs and stricter controls over federal
expenditures for health services, the spokesman said
He added that Congress envisions combining several
well-known federal health grant programs under a single
umbrella and the eMablishment of new mechanisms for
certifying needs for future federal spending

Some of the most unusual
pieces were Pat Benard's cer
amics. The short, fat. nude
figure of a man who has slit
his belly with a razor blade is
noticeable in the doorway.
"Ulcer Man” stands looking at
his pink and green insides.
"Jesus Complex” shows an

cently moved to Athens. She
graduated from Tulanc and got
her masters from Washington
State. She has been working
with ceramics for the past 10
years but her work has been
most concentrated in the last
four. Ultimately. Benard plans
to support herself solely
through her art.
Ann Orr is the jeweler in the
group She has been in Athens
for many years and has had
her work displayed in the
Georgia Museum of Art,
among other places. Rings,
pendants, chokers, pins, as
well as silverware, and a silver
bowl and vase are on display
at the Frankenburg-Guthrie
Gallery. Orr has a workshop in
her home and usually works on

have pieces in stores but I
usually don’t have enough

Jo Anne Paschall and Shirley

Folk festival
to be held here
The First Annual Athens
Folk Festival will be held
Saturday. April 12. Beginning a
10 a m. and running until 8
p m . the festival will feature a
variety of folk bands and
dance groups
The festival will be held at
Memorial Park. Due to a
shortage of parking space at
the park. 5p-free shuttle service
will be run,from the Coliseum
parking lot to the festival
grounds.
A large turnout ranging from
20(H) to 3(HM) people is expected
at the festival, according to
Don Oliver, special activities
coordinator for the festival.
Oliver said there are several
bands and singers scheduled
for the event Their songs will
be mainly folk, gospel, country
and bluegrass selections.
Among the bands included
will be the Northeast Georgia
Bluegrass Band and the Dixie
Dew boys Several area dance
groups including the Athens
Area (’loggers have also sched
uled performances.
Under the sponsorship of
both the Athens and the Clarke
County Recreation depart
ments the event was originally
planned to be primarily a blue
grass function.
After consultations among
various officials in both recrea
lion departments, it was de
cided that a festival containing
other facets of folk music and
entertainment would have
more appeal and prove to be
more feasible as far as the
general public is concerned.
There will be no admission
charged for entrance into the
test in al grounds. Areas will be
set aside for frolicking and
eating All visitors are urged to
bring a picnic lunch.
It is hoped that the Folk
Festival will l>ecome an annual
and "Pallid Interruption" are
beautiful examples of her flow
ing colors. Feaux also has
some serigraphs (screen
prints) and a collograph on
display.
A graduate of the University
of Wisconsin. Feaux has a
graduate assistantship and is
teaching "Art and the Child".
She is working on her M.F.A.
and will finish in June.
Fiber sculpture is Barbara
Severens specialty. "Fiber as
art has developed slowly and
cautiously." Severens said.
"My interest came about after
moving to Georgia two years
ago."
Some of Severen s fiber con
structions are 10 feet long and
project over a foot from the
wall. She makes them on a
loom. A smaller one. "Fancy

finger-like projections that

"I had my masters show
here this past January." Sev
erens said, "and got my under
graduate degree at the Univer
sity of Vermont This quarter I
am teaching a course in bas
ketry at the Georgia Center."
she said.
Assistant professor of design
Hadley Smith also had some
very interesting pieces in the
show. One of these is "South

recent work It shows a map of

of army camouflage material.
Water is rushing in at the top
and the bottom. On either side
are lists of MIAs and POWs It

war in Vietnam, according to
one of the owners of the
gallery.
