MADE THINGS HAPPEN
Offense has its day
Scouting today’s
a lot more than you think.

The final second had just
ticked off the Sanford Stadium
clock and a jubilant band of
Georgia Bulldogs headed in
mass for the dressing room to
celebrate their stunning 28-6
win over tough Mississippi
State.
Minus one Randy Johnson.
While his teammates wasted
little time in scurrying to the
post game celebration. Geor
gia's pre-season All-America
offensive guard’s arrival was
delayed by a little detour.
“STEVE WILSON (John
son's running mate at right
tackle) and I decided we’d
present the game hall to the
defense,” Johnson recalled
later in the steamy Georgia
dressing room
"After all, if it hadn't been
for them, we wouldn’t have
had a chance to come back and
win the game in the second
half,” he admitted
So Johnson made a mad
dash onto the field and scooped
up the game ball before joining
his teammates.
Johnson had good reason to
compliment the defense.
Thanks to the lacklustre
performance of their offensive
counterparts, Erk Russell's
Junkyard Dogs' tongues were
hanging out from overwork.
The highly touted offense
was completely stymied in the
opening half, forcing the de
fense to put in overtime.
"WE KNEW what we were
supposed to do but in the first
half we just seemed to be
going through the motions,"
Johnson moaned.
Georgia managed only 30
yards rushing on 16 attempts
in the opening 30 minutes, and
Johnson and company were far
from pleased with their part in
that pathetic showing.
“We just seemed to be

DON'T PILE ON
Junkyard defense keeps Mississippi State nut of the end zone
waiting for something to hap
pen. But at the half it dawned
on us that what we did last
year counted for nothing. We
had to prove ourselves all over
again this season," he said.
“The coaches really didn’t
say anything at the half to
particularly fire us up. We
were just mad. We knew we
hadn't done our share," John
son continued.
After Gene Washington re
turned the second half kickoff
to the Georgia 24 yard line, the
powerful Bulldog veer of old
went to work for the first time
this season.
STAYING exclusively on the
ground, Georgia negotiated the
76 yards to paydirt in nine
plays. “It was a great feeling
just being in the offensive
huddle in the second half. It
was like eletricity. No one
seemed tired. Everything just
seemed to fall into place,”
Johnson remembered.
That opening drive, followed
by Dicky Clark’s stirring 71
yard interception return for a
touchdown turned the game
around, and Georgia had
gained sweet revenge.
"Believe me, there is nothing
worse than losing to Miss. St.
in Jackson in front of all those
cowbell-clanging fans," the 6-2,
245 pound senior recalled.
“We were much better pre
pared for Miss. St. this time
around. Last year thev blitzed
quite a bit and really confused
our blocking assignments. But
this year, we were ready for
anything they could throw up
against us defensively," John
son noted.
The Georgia veer rolled up
231 total yards in the second
half, and Johnson thinks it was
just the beginning.
This is my fifth year at
Georgia, and this is undoub
tedly the most emotional team
I’ve ever played on. I expect
we’ll still be fired up for South
Carolina."
Georgia better be. No doubt
the battle cry in Columbia this
week will be revenge.
The Dogs humiliated the
Gamecocks 52-14 in Athens last
year.

Fourth quarter touchdown iced Georgia victory
Latest available figures show
that 8,000 American people between
the ages of 15 and 25 died in alcohol
related crashes. And almost all the
drunk drivers who caused those
crashes were also under 25.
You can change it. You have to.
You fight for clean air and clean
water. You eat natural foods. You
practice yoga ( . You are so much for
life. And you are so much against
killing.
It would be unthinkable for
you to kill another human being on
purpose.
So then, why is this
happening?

GrandOpening.
McDonald’s is raising whoopee Saturday and
Sunday, September 27 and 28, to celebrate the
grand opening of not one but two (count ’em —
two) new McDonald’s in Athens.
To help the celebration, we’re having a Blue-
grass Mixer-Matcher Hoop De Doo. When you
stop by any Athens’ McDonald’s you get half a
ticket to our Saturday^night Bluegrass Mixer-
Matcher which starts at 8 on the 27 th at our West
Broad Street location. An opposite sex person
holds the other half of your ticket. When you
find your other half at the Mixer-Matcher then
you both win free Big Macs and maybe a chance
of discovering everlasting love. Or a reasonable
r simile thereof. But you should get your
Mixer-Matcher ticket today because the
supply is limited.
Even if you don’t find your match Saturday
night, you’ll still enjoy the Dixie Bluegrass Band
| and have a lot of fun with a lot of nice people.
There’s a bunch of other things going on at
all three McDonald’s during the daytime includ
ing guest appearances by your friend and mine
the one and only Ronald McDonald * and a
Hula Hoop De Doo contest where you can win
a 10 speed bike.
When McDonald’s has a grand opening we
