Thailand given helicopters
to stop narcotics traffic
BANGKOK. Thailand (UPD-A senior U S. official gave
Thailand five new helicopters Monday in a battle to keep
‘ Golden Triangle" narcotics off the streets of American
cities.
U.S Ambassador Charles S Whitehouse, in presenting
the aricraft. spoke of attempts to “stem illicit drug
traffic."
The presentation at Bangkok's air police airport
completed delivery of a fleet of seven helicopters under a
1974 narcotics assistance agreement between Thailand and
the United States
While Thailand's military-backed government of civilian
Tanin Kraivixien has declared war on Communist
subversion within the country, there is no suspicion that the
helicopters will be diverted to that battle
But if the helicopters can stop the drug traffic from the
Golden Triangle, where red. purple and white poppies grow
on the hillsides of Thailand, Burma and Laos. to buyers in
Thailand and beyond, they will be cutting off the principal
income of the Chinese-backed Burma Communist Party.
Bonks' foreign dealings
suspended to stem panic
MEXICO CITY (UPI (--Banks suspended all foreign
exchange dealings yesterday "until further notice" in a
move to stem the continuing massive panic purchasing of
dollars by Mexicans
Banking sources said the measure followed the huge
purchase of $130 million last Friday, the day when rumors
spread through Mexico that a military coup was imminent.
The Central Bank put the suspension into effect suddenly
Monday as an apparent alternative to a third devaluation
of the Mexican peso in less than three months, according to
these sources.
Panic buying of dollars first began in the wake of the
first devaluation—last Sept. 1—forcing the Central Bank to
devalue again last Oct. 26. as its dollar reserves continued
to drop.
The Mexican peso for 22 years had been exchanged at a
rate of 12 50 to the dollar. But with the first devaluation it
went to 19.90 and with the second devaluation it has been
hovering around 24.30.
Little radioactive material
recorded in Georgia
ATLANTA (UPI I—Environmental officials reported only
small traces of radioactive material were detected in
Georgia Sunday from an air mass polluted last week by the
explosion of a hydrogen bomb in China.
Officials said fair weather across the state was one of the
reasons higher levels of radioactivity did not occur.
Leonard Ledbetter, state Department of Natural Ke-
sources environmental protection division said the Chinese
detonated a smaller bomb several weeks ago “and at that
time we did not detect significant change at all "

With the ^Built-in Edge.
Sedgefield Offers "Kong's Hair' asTribute.
New York (A l*E)—With (he eyes of the
world upon kinj> Kong, star of Paramount
Pictures epic new film release,a highly placed
source close to Kong today revealed the poss
ible reason for his destructive rampage.
In an exclusive interview held atop the twin
towers of the World Trade Center, it was sug
gested that Kong's misbehavior was tied to his
inability to find a pair of Sedgefield jeans large
enough to lit his mammoth proportions.
“It’s not fair," the source said, "when the
King of Gorillas can’t get a pair of the King of
Jeans."
"Sedgefield Do-Nothing jeans with Sanfor-
Sct* wouid have been just perfect for Kong.
They're natural 100% cotton, won't shrink out
of size, don't need ironing and start out soft.
Plus they come in style after style."
“Kong liked that," he added.
Shortly after hearing the explanation. Sedge
field disclosed a free oiler of King Kong's hair
as a tribute to the "ultimate consumer."
A lock of Kong's hair comes in a key chain
with a certificate proving it's from the actual
King Kong used in the film. It's a real collector's
item.
The key chain, or full-size, full color movie
posters of Kong in action, are being offered for
a limited time at participating stores. They're
free with the purchase of a pair of Sedgefield
jeans.
Robert Lukey. spokesman for Sedgefield
jeans, was visibly humbled by Kong's unsuccess
ful quest for his company's product.
“It saddens me to think." he lamented, “that
Kong may have been dying to get a pair of our
jeans."
"Well, that's show biz." he added philoso
phically.
Sedgefield has set up a special toll free num
ber where people of all sizes can locate Sedge-
field jeans and memorial key chains.
