consists of numerous paintings,
drawings and prints.
De Kooning has exhibited
her work throughout the
country, beginning with her
first solo in 1951. This is the
first show she has put on since
coming to the University.
A native New Yorker, she
has been an art teacher since
she held her first teaching post
at the University of New
Mexico in 1957. She has taught
and lectured at numerous
schools . including Yale Uni
versity, Pennsylvania State
University, and the University
of North Carolina at Greens
boro.
One of her famous works
is a series of portraits of
President John Kennedy she
painted for the Truman Li
brary. She started the project
in 1962 and spent a month
sketching Kennedy at his
vacation residence in West
Palm Beach. Fla Ironically,
she finished the series on the
day the late President was
assassinated, Nov. 22, 1963.
