ed primarily with federal funds
and is headquartered in
Augusta
The Northeast Georgia Sub-
Area Advisory Couneil assists
the agency in planning health

“The whole point of HSA is
to make sure that the plan
reflects what the public
wants.” Lewis said.
President of the Advisory
Council. Edward J. Fechtel,
Jr . said that the council “now
needs to work on establishing
some clear-cut goals in order
to seek some funds that could
be matched with the opening of
the office We've talked about
a budget of $10,000." he added
“We can probably do all
right by utilizing whatever
resources we can commit from
the Augusta office,” Fechtel
explained
The council is waiting until
April to rent office space and
is purchasing office equipment
for the new facility. “We tried
to lease an office with last
year’s funds, but HEW will not
allow us to do it.”
The goal of the new branch
office will be “to access the
needs of our citizens and to
help provide the information to
them.” Fechtel said.

Growth 5000 race to help children
CHAPIN
From p. 1
Throughout the sets, and
most especially as they
reached the later hours, the
humor onstage was non-stop.
While many of the asides and
"ad-libs" were rehearsed, they
were nonetheless entertaining
And as the hour grew late, a
spontaneity developed among
the hand members that was
refreshing and lifted the show
to new heights
The finale of the regular set
was. as in the earlier concert.
"30,000 Pounds of Banannas,”
a song of monumental length
and enjoyment
Following their exhaustive
performance, there was almost
a feeling of guilt in asking the
gruop to come back to do
more, but the crowd demanded
it, and what the crowd wanted.
Harry gave, as he had all
night
The encored began with a
plaintive song of the joys of
performance before seguing
into the traditional "Circle."
Finally, so long after he had
begun. Chapin was through.
Had the scheduling been
different, perhaps both au
diences would have been
treated to the bravura perfor
mance that was the second
show. But this cannot be any
reflection on Chapin, for he
gave of himself unquestionably
in both concerts.
Those who saw the first show
may take heart in the line
from “Clrclt" that Chapin
always seemed to emphasize?
"Somehow ! get the feeling—
That we ll all get together
again."

distance runners to Sunday
afternoon joggers will compete

scheduled to begin at 10 a in.
on the University campus.
The 3.1 mile competition will

Proceeds from the race will
benefit the Human Growth
Foundation, a non-prefit organ
ization dedica'ed to helping
children afflicted with growth
defects, according to race
officials.
“We re expecting this to be
the biggest road race Athens
nas ever had." Burgess said.

shirts will be awarded to the
first 100 finishers, she said A
trophy, plaques and other
prizes will also be awarded to
top finishers
Stan Cottrell, the runner who
recently made headlines by
running from Chattanooga to
Valdosta. Ga. in five days, will
be one of the entrants in the
race.
Local HGF officials say this
is the first road race ever held
to benefit their organization. If
the race is a success, officials
are looking to stage similar
events throughout the United
States.

begin at 9:00 a m., according
to Burgess. The entry fee for
the race is $4
Advance entry blanks will be
available in front of Memorial

of the combined effort of over
fift beginning journalism stu
dents. Burgess explained The

relations and the race is part
of a class project emphasizing
community awareness and
fund-raising events.
The race has received a lot
of support from local mer
chants. Burgess said. McDon
ald's restaurant in Athens will
be serving refreshments at the
race site.
