Placement director looks bac k on 32 years
By SUSAN REU
Your job, what you du each
day of your life, is the mosi
important thing in your life,
according to Anne Seawell. and
she should know. She has
made a job. or rather a career,
out of helping people enter the
world of jobs.
Seawell. a graduate of Duke
University, has been the direc
tor of the University’s Career
Planning and Placement office
since 194 -7 when it was com
prised of only one person—her
self.
Today she has a staff of I >. so
her duties are niainl\ adminis
trative: hiring, training, super
vising and coordinating
The main change V-awcll has
seen during her 32 years at ihc
placement office has been m
numbers. In her lirsi yeai 35
recruiters visited the campus:
last year 1015 came to interview
potential employees. Ihc Uni
versify is three times larger
now. there are more degrees
and more majors, and the
graduate programs have grown,
especially in business and the
sciences.
Students' attitudes have
changed somewhat, too. Sea
well said. After World War II a
lot of the students were veter
ans. and thev were more mature
than today's students. Under
standahly. th«*v were “in a
hum to finish school and get set
up in a career.’ she said.

Lab work Which isn’t able

There is no mark-up.

The best thing to do if you
have a specific question or
problem is to stop by or call
University Health Services
at 542-1162. If they can't
help you, then they can
refer you to someone who
can.
One word of caution:
don’t wait until the end of
