R egarding Manfred Wolf’s review of
Elements of Style, November Amper-
stind, we may perfectly well under-
stand i li.it our friend lio|M's lie w ill leave on
llu- titmui plane when lie says. ’Hopefully I
will leave on the noon plane," Inn dial is not
what die friend has said. He has said dial
he w ill leave in a Impel til manner.
I.ef Mantled Wolf contemplate the
meaning ol ’Hopefully die plane will leave
at noon." If he thinks that that means dial
the speaker hopes etc., does il not strike
him as strange that the s|>eaker is not even
mentioned.* As an adverh, “hopefully"
mollifies die verb, “will leave.” Who or
w li.u is leaving? Does Wolf genuinely be
lieve dial il makes sense to say ol a plane
that it will leave in a hopeful frame of
mind?
Avoiding this usage is not affectation but
coherence and rationality.

I enjoyed your article on Graham Chap
man of Monty Python. Thank you for
keeping all of us “Pythonmaniacs” up to
date. By the way, do you know if die other
members of Python are straight? Also, last
spring you had a small article that said
Graham Chapman was planning a college
lecture tour. Is he still planning it? Or has
he done it already? How can I find out?

m writing to comment on the “On Disc"
artic le on Boh Dylan.
\bu must first of all understand that
Dylan is now a 100% Jesus person, just like
millions ol us — God's true children.
I’m glad Ampersand admitted the verac
ity «f Dylan’s conversion of heart, whereas
Rolling Stone tried its dai ntiest to refute
that "ugly rumour.**
Yes, Jesus is now the center of Dylan’s
life. I think Davin Seay was honest in his
approach, even though trying to under
stand this new Dylan. I myself had doubts
about his conversion until I heard the
album for myself. Dylan's iiiusk is “Jesus
music" I rejoice.
I think Byron l^iursen's review is that of
the worldly biased mind — the mind of
America and the world — the mind of
death.
Dylan’s songs “disquiet" I.aursen be
cause GikI’s holy spirit is convicting him of
his sinfulness and need til a Saviour. To
him I can honestly say. without a doubt,
that there is no neutral ground. Kither
you’re with Him or against Him. Kither
heaven or eternal damnation.
I hope- you find the only truth — Jesus.

a way I did, and so did a million others.

Y our October issue with its Jimmy
Buffett cover story was super! The
Buffett article was especially well-
written, and it gave a concise look at one of
the greatest southern musicians around. I
have followed Buffett's musical career
since the release of his debut ABC album
in 1972, and I am a fellow Mohilian, so it is
good to see ”a home-town boy" get the rec
ognition he has richly deserved for years.
His laid-liack style is unique to all of rock
musit, and he has contributed to many
gtmmI times, both here on campus and at
home. I he article and pictures will take
their place on my wall of handmade
"Jimmy Bulfett wallpaper." I hanks for the
great issue, and keep up the good work.
