Wildcats in 17 years
A Dooley trademark
throughout his winning
years has been his building
up of the opponent's talent
in the eyes of the press and
his team, no matter who the
enemy may be This week is
no exception
"Kentucky is better over
all than the last three
opponents we’ve faced,”
Dooley said. "We’re talking
about a team in Tennes
see's. possibly Clemson’s
class.”
The 2-4 Cats will have
freshman quarterback Ran
dy Jenkins leading the
offense. Jenkins is a passing
quarterback and is not
known for his running In
six games he has totalled 62
yards for an average of 10.3
yards a game However,
Jenkins is passing at a 57
percent clip for 725 yards.
He's thrown six touchdowns
and 13 interceptions. Back
ing Jenkins up will be Terry
Henry, who Dooley says can
be "very, very bad ”
Snapping the ball to
Jenkins and Henry will be
Ken Roark, a 6-2, 230 lb.
senior.
On Roark's sides will be
Robert Cobb at left guard
and Richard Adams at right
guard. Cobb is a newcomer
on the varsity after spend
ing 1978 as a red-shirt
player and 1979 on discipli
nary probation. Adams did
not start last year until the
third game, but then played
in the next seven of eight
games.
The Kentucky bookends
will be Dave Bond on the
left side and Gerald Smyth
on the right side Bond is a
6-4, 245 lb. junior who is in
his first year of varsity
competition Smyth is a
sophomore letterman who
played in five games
before a shoulder injury
knocked him out of action
last season.
At tight end is junior Jim
Campbell from Louisville.
Dooley has high praise for
Campbell, praise his statis
tics indicate he deserves.
He has caught 22 passes this
year for 257 yards and three
touchdowns

Wide receiver Kerry
Baird has caught four
passes this season for 61
yards.
Running behind quarter
back Jenkins are fullback
Randy Brooks and halfback
Henry Parks Brooks is the
Cat’s leading rusher with
439 yards on 119 attempts.
He is averaging 3.7 yards a
carry. Parks is the team’s
fourth leading ground gain
er with 81 total yards and
he has averaged four
yards-per-carry.
Dooley says this year’s
Kentucky offense is exactly
the same as the last 14 he
has seen at Kentucky.
"They almost tell you
where they're going and it
looks they (the linemen) all
aim for one pont,” said the
coach.
"On defense, one fellow
just gets all the attention,
number 37. I don't know his
name, but I don’t need to
know it, because buddy, he
shows up.”
It won’t be long Saturday
for Dooley to realize that
number 37 is Greg Long, a
junior defensive back from
Lexington. As a strong
safety. Long has 38 solo
tackles and 18 assists.
Andy Molls, a 5-9, 181 lb.
sophomore is the other
safety. Chris Jacobs and
Greg Motley, both seniors,
play what Kentucky calls
the defensive halfback posi
tion.
The team’s two leading
tacklers, Chuck Smith and
Scott Schroeder, man the
linebacker positions. Smith,
a senior, has 78 tackles this
season. 45 solo and 33
assists. Schroeder, a soph
omore letterman from Sate
llite Beach, Fla., has tallied
77 total tackles, 41 solo and
assists
