If Georgia defeats Auburn Saturday and is extended a
Sugar Bowl bid Nov 21, Georgia players would like a
rematch with Clemson for a possible national championship
showdown
Linebacker Nate Taylor said Tuesday that beating Auburn
is the main thing on his mind right now, but he would
welcome the opportunity to play for a national title
Pittsburgh and Clemson are currently ranked first and
second in the national polls and Taylor has definite ideas
about which team he hopes finishes in the top spot, as that
team would be a likely opponent in a national championship
game.
' Clemson. Definitely,'' Taylor said.
Offensive guard James Brown would also like to play
Clemson again
"I hope Clemson finishes the regular season as No 1 so we
can play them again," he said.
Clemson could finish the regular season ranked No. 1 if
they win their final two games and Pittsburgh loses one of
their remaining three.
Should Georgia defeat Auburn and then Georgia Tech on
Dec. 5 and if it receives the bid, the Bulldogs would be the
highest ranked team available in a major bowl.
Currently, though, the players have their minds on
Saturday's game with Auburn. They know there is a chance
to win Georgia's first Southeastern Conference title at home
in 22 years and to be the first Georgia team to win con
secutive conference championships
They also know they must get by Auburn for any hopes to
have a chance to become a reality

themselves,” said rover Tim Bobo

Auburn ’bone poses new problems

Last week it was the run-
and-shoot. All season, it has
been some type of passing
threat.
When Georgia meets
Auburn Saturday with the
Southeastern Conference ti
tle on the line for the
Bulldogs, it will face one of
the few power attacks it has
faced all season
Not only will Georgia face
a power attack, it will face
the wishbone offense, which
features the triple option.
"We have not faced a
wishbone team since 1977,
when we played Alabama in
Tuscaloosa," Georgia Head
Coach Vince Dooley said at
Tuesday's press conference.
Dooley added that he ex
pected a "blood-and-guts"
type of game Saturday, in
the traditional manner of
Georgia-Auburn games.
The players expect the
game to lie hard-hitting as
well, if for no other reason
than the fact that there is a
lot of emotion and pride in
the rivalry.
"Against Auburn the peo
ple on our team don't need
any reason to get fired up,"
linebacker Nate Taylor said.
“It'll be a street fight on the
footbal field. We'll have to
tighten our chest straps.”
Playing the wishbone will
present its own challenge to
the Georgia defense.
Dooley has often said that
defense is based on recogni
tion of what an opponent is
planning to do
"Since we're playing a
wishbone team, the
linebackers will have to be
up and ready because

they’re gonna be running,”
Taylor said.
“A wishbone team runs
the triple option," Taylor ad
ded. “We have to have so
meone on the fullback, on the
quarterback, and someone
on the pitch man.”
Taylor said that his posi
tion has no direct respon
sibility to read the fullback;
he said the linebackers'
primary job would be to read
where the ball is going.
As the option is executed, a
major responsibility for
defensing it falls on the
defensive ends. Junior Dale
Carver said he is ready for
that challenge
"We (defensive ends) set
the stage,” Carver said. “If
we take the quarterback,
that opens the game up for
the inside people."
Carver had in mind
Georgia's down lineman, in
cluding Eddie Weaver. Jim
my Payne and Tim Crowe. If
the Dogs stop the outside op
tion, Auburn will attempt to
run the ball inside with
fullbacks George Peoples
and Kon O'Neal.
Carver emphasized that it
would be important for
Georgia to stop Auburn's
outside running off the op
tion.

The Georgia Bulldog and Lady Bulldog basketball games
against Georgia Tech, originally scheduled for Dec. 5 in
Athens, have been moved to Dec. 4.
The women will begin at 5 p.m., with the men following at
7:30.
The game will be the Dogs' third of the season after

State Dec. 1.
Georgia Head Coach Hugh Durham said the rescheduling
of the game was a mutual agreement between the schools.

main concerns about facing
the wishbone is that the
defense must change the
preparations involved.
Carver said his position is
a good example of this need
to change.
"I’ve been doing a lot of
dropping to cover passes,”
Carver said. "This week.
Auburn won t try to pass. I'll

"We're gonna have to shut
