this gives us a chance to
take a look at the results to
try and get a handle on
what the rest of the season
may be like
One of the biggest ques

season is whether the year
layoff will hurt the hitting
or the pitching the most
Softball and baseball,
probably more than any
other sport, have always
been preoccupied with
statistics So let's take a
look at some from last

ZTA downs AOPi 3-2 in overtime
l^ast year, the Zeta Tau
Alpha softball team ac
complished a remarkable
feat They finished the
regular season and tourna
ment with an unblemished
record and captured the
Women's Governors la-ague
Championship
In fact, the closest ZTA
came to losing last year was
in a tournament against
Alpha Gmicron Pi, which
ZTA won in extra innings by
one run
ZTA and AOPi locked
horns again last Wednesday.
Although AOPi was deter

loss to Zeta which knocked
them out of last year’s tour

The game matched D'Ann

Pruitt and Carver were
tough in the early going

scoreless through the first
four innings
The ZTA offense struck for
its first run of the season in
the top of the fifth when
Cathy Turner drove in Deb

The Brumby Bandits
made light of the Belfast
Bombers' name Wednesday
as they bombed the Bom
bers' pitcher Ranae Smith
for six runs in the bottom of
the first inning and hung on
to win 8-6
The Bombers jumped out
to an early 1-0 lead in the top
of the first
The Bandits’ initial run
ning barrage was
highlighted by Kathy
Vaughn's three-run homer,
Stephanie Parker's two-run
triple and Melanie Doxie's
RBI single
The Bandits added to their
6-1 lead in the bottom of the
third when Moe Dyer's
heads-up base running
turned a double and a
throwing error into a run.
The Bandits got another
insurance run in the bottom
of the fourth when Mary
Caminskey doubled and
Judy McEver drove her in
with a RBI single to bring
the score to 8-1.
Meanwhile, the Bomber
bats were still shell-shocked
from their first inning
blasting. Bandit pitcher
Alison Grayson held the
Bombers scoreless for three
innings.
The Bombers, though,
were not ready to quit. They
entered the fifth knowing
that time would force this to
be their last at bat. After two
quick outs, they loaded the
bases. Lisa White then
singled in one run to make
the score 8-2. Grayson then
gave up another RBI single
to Leeanne Still, making it 8-

Grayson had obviously
had enough. After a meeting

second to pitcher. Vaughn
