The women's tennis team enters the home stretch of its
regular season at 2 p.m today when it entertains the Georgia
Southern women at the Georgia tennis complex.
Georgia is coming off two big weekend wins over Florida
State and Valdosta State The Lady Bulldogs, now 12-4,
defeated nth-ranked Florida State 6-3 Saturday, and then
dominated Valdosta State 9-0 Sunday.
Ceorgia Southern should provide the Lady Bulldogs with a
good warm-up for the long awaited match with 13tli-ranked
Clemson on Wednesday
Georgia was scheduled to meet the Lady Tigers twice
before, but the matches were snowed out on Feb. 26 and then
rained out on April 8. The women will finally get a shot at
Clemson this Wednesday.
Before meeting arch rival Clemson, however, the Georgia
women must face their visitors from Statesboro, Georgia
Southern.
Coach Lee Myers plans to start her regular lineup against
Georgia Southern. "We want to play the same people who
will compete against Clemson, in order to be sharp for
them," Myers said. "I'm sure that the girls will be thinking
of Clemson during the match, but we can't let Georgia
Southern surprise us"
The win over Florida State marked the second Top 20 team
Georgia has defeated this season. The women beat North
Carolina on March 24 The win also gives the team more con
fidence going into the Clemson match. Clemson edged the
Florida State women 5-4 earlier in the season.
Nancy Cohen, playing in the No. 4 singles position, was
down two games to five in the first set against FSU’r Gigi
Boesch, when she began the comeback of the crucial match
of the afternoon.
