Georgia coach Liz Mur

she really didn't see her

hut the play of Schreyer and
Caroline Gowan has pushed
the lady Dogs toward the

Schreyer followed Sun

Gowan had a 79 in the first

McCLUSKEY-
From I’age H
"Because of me they made
a touchdown,” McCluskey
said, "but I couldn't let that
get me down We’re the type
of team that doesn't get
down, we pick each other
up ' Dooley attributed the
miscues to freshman-itis
"It's just an inexperience
thing He's not just a
freshman playing at
Georgia, he's a freshman at
tailback He's a double
freshman He can run; he's
good, but he's got to
learn But he'll be all right if
he keeps his head up
"He forgets and he runs in
there and grabs the ball He
runs crazy. He's so anxious
In high school he played
fullback in a wishbone He
lined up on all fours That's a
big extreme for him Her
schel i Walker) had the great
benefit of taking 4.IKX) snaps
at tailback in high school "
Because of Georgia's
great need for a yardage-
producing tailback Dooley
admits "I'm hurrying him "
McCluskey, however,
seems ready for the
challenge "Coach Dooley
said in practice he wanted
one of us to step up and take
the position." McCluskey
said, and in my mind I want
to be that one "

Opening Georgia's home
slate with national-power
Kentucky is not quite the
way volleyball coach Sid
Feldman planned to begin
the season in Athens, but the
Lady Kats will invade the
Women's P E Building at
7:30 p m tonight
The Lady Dogs were
originally scheduled to host
Georgia Tech in their home
opener, but the Lady Jackets
cancelled the match. Ken
tucky then had to change its
game against Georgia set for
later in the year, but the
Tech date was available, so
the Lady Kats fit right into
the schedule
Kentucky finished third in
the conference last year and
has already established
itself as a top contender for
the conference crown
Kentucky coach Mary Jo
Peppier brought in three top
California teams for her
Kats to play, and Kentucky
took two of the three mat
ches The Lady Kats topped
San Diego State, ranked
third nationally last year,
and Arizona State, No 6 this
year, while losing to No 3
UCLA in five games Ken
tucky ranks seventh in the
latest polls
Last year. Kentucky
overpowered the Lady Dogs
twice The first time was in
the Duke Tournament (15-13,
10-15, 2-15, 11-15) and then
again in the Southeastern
Conference tournament
consolation game <2-15, 8-15,
< yrtb 4 or/The Red and Black
Volleyball team has 4-2 record so far
5-15).
Feldman's team brings a
4-2 record into the match,
but he said the inexperience
of eight new people is
becoming less-and-less a
factor
“For three weeks we
haven’t been able to set a
complex offense." Feldman
said, "but now our seller
ifreshman Nancy Hughes) is
improving so much that our
offensive pace has really
picked up ”
Feldman said his team
could beat the Lady Kats,
but it would require an
almost perfect team per
formance
"If we serve-receive well
and set a fast offense, we
could control them,”
Feldman said "We'll have
to play almost error free, but
all Kentucky has to do is play
a good game "
