Thanks to the installation
of computer terminals in
Myers and Creswell halls,
the problem of heavy usage
at existing facilities should
be alleviated by fall, says
Housing Director Dan
Hallenbeck
The Office of Computing
Activities is supplying the
MUSIC computer terminals
and the housing department
is supplying the space, he
says
Heavy usage of the ter
minals in the past led to long
waiting lines near the end of
a quarter Now housing
officials plan to install 18 or
19 terminals and a high
speed printer in the two new
sites, says Bobby Brown, a
superviser at the Office of
Computing Activities
The installation of the new
terminals should ease the
heavy usage at sites such as
Russell Hall. Brown says
New computer terminals in Myers
and Creswell halls will relieve the
computer crunch.

Regents postpone decision
on Georgia’s oldest college
By ANUV SMITH
HH and Mark luorUtr V.4Um
ATLANTA — The Board of Regents
tabled a proposal brought before thr body
Wednesday that would have made
Augusta College, not the University, the
oldest college in the state
"I don't anticipate a decision in the near
future." said Regrnt Marie Dodd of
Atlanta "We re not going to research the
Issue."
Augusta College, whose official foun
ding date is 1925. claims to have traced its
founding back to Richmond Academy, a
public high school established in 1783
The new founding date would make
Augusta College two years older than the
University
Regents spokeswoman Vickie Fair said
at least four other public colleges in the
atate — (ieorgia Southwestern. Georgia
Southern. Fort Valley SUIe and South
(Georgia — have based their founding
dates on connections to "parent in
stitutions."
But several regents expressed concern
over the validity of the claim
“I have doubts as to whether Richmond
Academy was a functioning college and
not a prep school, said Vice Chancellor
for Academic Affairs Ray Ulcere
College officials, however, claim occa
sional college courses have been taught
throughout Its 201 -year history "We need
some more empirical data before we can
decide on this," said Regent Eldridge
McMillian of Atlanta
In other regents news, the board
unanimously passed a proposal ap
pointing Clive W Donoho Jr as an
associate dean of the College of
Agriculture and director of the
Agricultural Experiment Stations at the
University
Donoho is the former director of the
Wooster, Ohio branch ol the University of
Ohio's Agricultural Research and
Development Center
