Kenned}' criticizes Reagan
BIRMINGHAM, Ala lAP) - Sen Ted Kennedy, D-
Mass said Monday that President Reagan “is out of his
depth" and should be turned out of office in the November
election.
Kennedy said the president cannot shrug off three at
tacks on the U S Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, by
claiming that “the delay in installing security was like the
delay in remodeling a kitchen The comparison is ap
palling, tail it is also the latest proof we have that the
president we have is out of his depth — and that he should
be nut of office
"We need to renovate the White House — not by
remodeling the kitchen, but by retiring Ronald Reagan ”

New bookstore competition
hasn’t hurt UGA, Powell says
By TAMMY RENTER

Despite competition from two new off
campus bookstores the University Bookstore
will continue to outsell its competitors.
University officials say
"Any textbook business they did was
business we would have done had they not
opened, but we've had a successful fall
quarter so far," said bookstore Manager
William Powell
“The beginning of the quarter lived up to
our expectations and we had a good book
rush . " he added
Although there is new competition, Powell
said the University store has certain
features, such as its 5 percent student
discount on new textbooks, that attracts and
will continue to attract student business
He also stressed that the University store
is doing its best to cut the long lines each
quarter The University Bookstore ex
pansion will add seven lines to the present 20
Powell said that the expansion will begin as
early as January, but he stressed that plans
for this expansion were already in effect way
before any new competition came to
Athens "
Chuck Sekula. the manager of the Off
Campus Bookstore on Baxter St . said his
sales were "at least what we expected ."
“We ordered conservatively and had I had
twice the inventory. I would have had twice
the sales "
The Off Campus Bookstore sells novelties
as well as supplies and specializes in used
textbooks It receives its book list directly
from the University Bookstore
The University store charges a set price
for this service and feels it reduces the
chances of students purchasing the wrong
books
"I received all the cooperation in the world
from the University Bookstore," Sekula said
Although there have been several futile
past attempts to open bookstores off campus.
Sekula said "their failure was probably due
to poor location and inexperience
"Students seem very enthusiastic about
having other choices for textbook pur
chasing," Sekula said

Students living on campus
who wake up on football
Saturdays and find their
cars blocked by fans' cars
may have to walk instead of
driving
University police Maj
Chuck Horton said cars
parked on campus won't be
towed during football games
unless they are obstructing
traffic
"We try not to tow
anybody unless it's an
emergency or is absolutely
necessary for some other
reason," Horton said
James Tardy, the director
of University Parking
Services, said his depart
ment turns over all game
day responsibilities to
University police, whose
staff is supplemented by
state, county and city police

Horton said the staff's
biggest job is to direct traffic
within the parking lots
reserved for fans, including
those near the bookstore,
Stegemen Hall and the
military science building
Like Athens police, the
University suspends
ticketing during the game
Horton said the department
deals with illegal parking
only when it empedes traffic
flow
"Our main goal is to keep
traffic moving." he said
W hen we get complaints we
first try to work with them -
ask them to wait
"With eighty- plus
thousand people at the
game, we just don I have the
space to tow vehicles ”
However, the towing
situation is different off
campus, according to Athens
police spokesman Mel
Hegwood
Hegwood said when
someone complains about a
vehicle, it is always towed
"We suspend enforcement

Hegwood said that any
