Two assaults reported
University police reported two acts of aggravated
assaults on students Saturday night and Sunday morning
Police are still investigating both cases, according to
University police spokesman CpI Richard Haynes
The first assault occurred near Russell Hall when a
student was assaulted with a bos cutter and received
minor cuts The student was treated for the cuts at the
Gilbert Health Center and released The second assault
occurred on Rogers Road when a man tried to force a
female student into a car The woman managed to escape
unharmed This incident occurred at around I a m

Speakers plan visits
Several prominent literary figures will lecture on
campus this year, according to Coburn Freer, head of the
Knglish department
Freer said he is very pleased with the lecturers that
are coming and is planning to invite a few more speakers
Frederick Garber, professor of comparative literature
at State University of New York at Binghamton, will
lecture Wednesday on "Satire and the Making of Selves,"
in room 266 of Park Hall at 4 30 p m
During winter quarter, the Knglish department will host
a scholar in residence for one week Harvard’s Sacvan
Bercovitch will speak about Herman Melville and
Nathaniel Hawthornein two after mam lectures
Peter Taylor, a well-known short story writer, will
teach undergraduate and graduate courses in creative
writing spring quarter as well as give readings from his
work

Man sets wife on fire after watching TV show

39-year-old man who wanted
to "scare" his wife was held
Tuesday on suspicion of
setting fire to her shortly
after he watched a TV movie
about a woman who burned
her abusive husband to
death, police said
