season However, Yoculan developed a new
trick for her, which the freshman stuck to
capture second place in the event with a 9.3
score
Fellow freshman Gina Banales won the
vaulting event, scoring a 9.4 on her first
vault. However, it was Banales second vault
which silenced the Coliseum crowd, as
Banales mistimed her landing and struck her
head on the mat. While it was feared that
Banales had suffered an injury in her neck,
she was able to compete in the uneven bars,
scoring a 9.2, and the balance beam, scoring
a 8 5.
Banales also had a low scoring routine
against Ohio State, scoring 8.1 after falling
three times and missing the mat completely
on her dismount Banales seems to be
leading the team in injuries this year, as she
battled a virus Sunday while scoring 35.85 in
the all-around. Yoculan also scratched
Banales from the floor exercises Tuesday
night after she aggravated a knee injury on
her dismount from the beam
However, on Tuesday Michelle Sessions
led a Georgia squad which attacked the
beam perhaps the best it has all season.
Sessions smashed the Lady Dog beam record
by scoring a 9.65 with a routine which had
much of the crowd gasping during the
routine and applauding at the end.
Stacy Cook, Terri Eckert and Klick shared
the former record of 9.55, Eckert and Klick
tied the former record Tuesday, each scoring
a 9.55 while Thompson and Origer con
tributed a 9.05 and 9 00 respectively.
After three events Sessions, who also
nailed a 9.65 on the uneven bars, held a 15
lead over Klick for the all-around title.
However, Klick, using a rock and roll routine
highlighted by the theme from "Ghost-
busters,” captured the all-around title by a
.05 margin Klick scored a 9.55 to Sessions’
9.35 in the floor exercises to win her third
consecutive all-around title with a 37.75
score.

The Georgia women's
basketball team extended its
win streak to nine games
with impressive victories
over Southeastern Con

Mercer University of Macon.
The Lady Dogs traveled to

seeking its second SEC win
in as many tries The Lady
Gators came into Saturday's
matchup with a 1-0 record
after a 72-63 victory over
Vanderbilt. Georgia's lone
conference win was a 78-72
decision in Athens over
Tennessee in December.
All-America Janet Harris
pumped in a season-high 39
points while sophomore
Katrina McClain tossed in 20
in the winning effort. Harris
and McClain shared
rebounding honors with nine

defeated Florida 88-73 to
remain unbeaten in the SEC
Georgia Head Coach Andy
Landers said that he was
pleased with the patience of
his players on offense
“Florida has such a strong
front-line that I was a little
worried about playing
them," Landers said "We
were very patient with our
offense and very disciplined,
and that pleases me."
On Monday night, the
Lady Dogs took on Mercer in
Macon before a capacity
crowd of 550 in Porter

of the game, the Teddy

The Lady Dogs opened up

with just 4:39 left in the
contest. Landers then
proceeded to give his second
team some playing time and
saw the Teddy Bears reduce
the margin to 16 by the end of
the game to 94-78
Georgia's victory could be
largely attributed to the 65 6
field goal percentage that it
shot for the game Teresa
Edwards led the Lady Dogs
with 21 points as she conn-
nected on 9 of 11 field goals
and three of four free
throws. Harris and Susie
Gardner contributed 16 and
12 points respectively, while
McClain tossed in 14 and
grabbed a game-high nine
rebounds
"This has to be the

Landers said “We knew that

Sessions set a school beam record Tuesday
The Georgia women's gymnastics team
reached out and nearly grabbed perfection
Tuesday night in the Coliseum by defeating
Missouri 185 9-174.5, The win, combined with
the Lady Dogs' 183 55-178.1 victory over Ohio
State Sunday, improves ninth-ranked
Georgia's record to 3-1 and its unbeaten
streak at home to eight meets
Georgia's score against Missouri is the
highest team score recorded in the nation
this season. The second highest score
recorded this season is the Lady Dogs’ score
against Ohio State.
Georgia Coach Suzanne Yoculan inserted
an ususual lineup against the Lady Tigers, as
only six Georgia gymnasts competed, in
cluding four freshmen and two sophomores
Georgia scored 19 of 20 routines without a fall
off the equipment, their fewest number of
falls this year
Through their first three meets, Yoculan
expressed concern that her squad might be
winning the battle while losing the war, as
the Lady Dogs scored 24 falls in three meets.
Yoculan said that if the team continued lo
score a great number of falls, il would be
very difficult to score high enough to play a
return engagement at the NCAA meet in
April
Jodi Thompson's fall off the balance beam
prevented a night of perfect execution,
although the sophomore still chalked up a
9.1.
“1 am scared by this score because I knew
that we had some talent," Yoculan said. “To
score this high this early in the season makes
me nervous because there is not too much
higher for us to go."
Ironically, Georgia began its march to a
team record score on the vault This event
has been the team's weakest this year, and
the nemesis to Julie Klick in particular.
Klick had not hit any of her six vaults this
