Lady Dogs roar back into win column
By ERIC GARBER
Sports Writer
timing
loss to Vanderbilt Saturday, the
Lady Dogs needed to regroup and
execute against Southern Utah
State Monday night.
They did exactly that, slaugh
tering the Lady Th underbirds 112-
46 and marking Georgia’s largest
margin of victory this season.
"We did a good job of running the
ball early,” Georgia coach Andy
Landers said. The game was up
tempo and we ran well, but I
thinx you could definitely see flaws
in our defensive game."
‘Our guards made quick
passes,’ Landers said.
‘They forced some
turnovers and sparked
our offense.’
—Andy Landers,
Women’s basketball
coach
Frequently giving SUSC just
one shot each trip down the court,
Georgia’s forwards out-rebounded
the Thunderbirds 48-42 while ef
fectively finding passing outlets to
spark the Dogs’running game.
“I think we played well but our
defense was weak from time to
time," Georgia forward Stacey
Ford said. “I don't think we played
to our potential defensively but
worked hard enough to win the
game."
Ford led all scorers with 17
>ints and pulled down 10 ro
unds to lead the way. Other in
fluential Georgia contributors were
forwards Tammye Jenkins (11
pu!
hoi
points) and Jessica Barr (12
points), and guard Sharon Baldwin
(12 points).
Forward Stacey French chipped
in 15 points for SUSC.
Unlike it did against Alabama
and Vanderbilt last week, Georgia
took control of the game early,
scoring the contest’s first eight
points and holding SUSC to only
18 first-half points
In addition to claiming total con
trol of the boards, the Dogs’ forced
43 Thunderbird turnovers.
“Our guards made quick
passes," Landers said. “They forced
some turnovers and sparked our of
fense."
