TONIGHT
Dogs must pull together to stop Vols
When Georgia faces the Tennessee Volun
teers tonight in Knoxville, Hugh Durham will
need another outstanding game from his two
starting guards, Litterial Green and Rod Cole.
The front-court duo will face a stifTchallenge
from Vol guards Allan Houston and Greg Bell.
Houston is the son of head coach Wade
Houston.
"It’s a key matchup for us, because that’s
their strength,” Durham said. “We’re giving
away some size to those guys."
Houston, a 6-foot-5 inch freshman, averages
19 9 points per game. Bell, a 6-foot-3 inch ju
nior, averages 17 points per game.
‘The last time we played them, Houston was
hot and Bell has always been great,” Cole said
‘They rely heavily on the three-point shot.”
Tennessee is fourth in the league with 38.3
percent three-point field goal percentage.
Georgia leads the league with 43 percent.
The Dogs will also rely on Jody Patton and
Shaun Golden for points and tough defense.
Patton adds an extra dimension to the Dogs of
fense with clutch three-point baskets.
“We need to stop them from getting ofT their
three-pointers,” Patton said. “We had the game
in control when they came in here last time,
and then they got back in it hitting their three-
pointers."
Houston poses the biggest problem for the
Dogs and is fourth in the league in scoring. But,
at 6-1, Green can leap with the best of them and
he expects a tough game from the Volunteers.
‘The primary thing we’re going to focus on is
tenm play," Green said. "Bell and Houston can’t
bent us. There’s no wny in the world that two
people can beat five."

Cleaning the glass key to Georgia win tonight
Yet, despite their height disparity, Ten
nessee ranks ahead of Georgia in SEC team re
bounding. The Volunteers rnnk third, one spot
ahead of the Dogs.
Bused on this, Austin knows that solid re
bounding will be tantamount to a Georgia win.
‘Tennessee is a very good tenm. Rebounding
and solid defense will be the keys,” Austin said.
Kessler leads the Bulldogs in rebounding
with an average of 10.2 per game. Ronnie Reese
pulls down over six a game to pace Tennessee.
Georgia goes into this game knowing the
keys to victory and knowing that this is their
biggest game yet.

fought on basketball’s front lines — in the
paint.
Front-line plav and rebounding will be the
key in a game which Georgia will have the dis
tinct height advantage. Tennesee’s tallest
starter, center Ian Ix>ckhnrt, stands at 6-8,
while Georgia’s front line of Alec Kessler, Ne
ville Austin, and Marshall Wilson stands at 6-

“It’ll be a difficult road game. Well need to
stop Allan Houston (Tennessee’s freshman
guard) and rebound well," Kessler said.
“We want to win the first one,” Kessler
