The touch and power of Georgia
freshman Hector Nevares helped
propel the No. 5 ranked Georgia
men’s tennis team (17-3, 7-1) to a
5-3 victory over No. 11 LSU (11*7,
5-3) Saturday at Henry Feild Sta
dium.
Playing at No. 2 doubles with se
nior Jim Childs, Nevares saved two
set points in a second set tie
breaker with a delicate forehand
top-spin lob and a crushing first
serve against the nation’s No. 6
ranked doubles team of Mario Pa
checo and Tom Furukrantz.
Nevares and Childs’ 6-4, 7-6 (11-
9) win clinched Bulldogs’ victory.
Down 5-6 in the tiebreaker, Ne
vares lofted the top-spin lob over
the LSU tandem to save the first
set point. Then, serving at 8-9,
after Childs hit a top-spin lob of his
own to save a second set point at 8-
7, Nevares came up witn two big
first serves which set up put-
aways. On the next point, Nevares
ended the match with an unretur-
nable forehand.
“I missed a few (top-spin) lobs by
a few inches earlier in tne match. I
got more confidence and hit them
with more top-spin, and they
started going in,” Nevares said.
“Hector really came through,”
Childs said. “It’s a tough situation
for a freshman to be in.”

play by going for winners and ap
proaching the net.
Parker approached 56 times,
won 40 points, hit 29 winners and
made 52 unforced errors.
Td wait for the right time to
come to net,” Parker said. “We’d hit
30 groundstrokes, then I’d ap
proach and come in.”
Leaycraft’s loss dropped his
season record to 13-17. The Meta

make the singles field at the

Dana Fullendorf
San Francisco State University
"It's the perfect car
for students
about to enter
the real world'/
It's no wonder that Dana Fullendorf is going
forward in a new Jetta GL. Her relationship with
Volkswagen goes way back.
''It must have started at birth, when I was
brought home in a 1963 Beetle."
As soon as Dana was old enough to drive, a
succession of Volkswagens followed. A 1969
Beetle convertible. A 1973 Super Beetle. And
Dana's first new car—a 1984 Rabbit Diesel —
a car she was reluctant to part with, until her
sister purchased a new Jetta GLI.
"I really didn't need a new car. My Rabbit
was in great shape and gave me no problems
whatsoever But I said to myself, if my sister
can get a new Jetta then so can I.
"This car fits my image to a T. I'm a student
on the brink of becoming a professional. And I
need a car that'll fit into both of my worlds."
The Jetta GL. Performance and practicality at
a Volkswagen price.
We get the idea that when Dana Fullendorf
graduates, she's going to go a long, long way.
The VCI College Graduate Finance Plan makes owning or
leasing a Volkswagen easier than ever before. And you
may not need a credit history to qualify. Visit your
