Artwares Gallery, located at 185
Washington St., opens its doors
Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The gallery is owned by Dave
Jenkins and managed by Daniel
Fullerton, both local artists.
Together, they’ve created a com
fortable environment in which to
show the work of other lesser-
known artists.
“We’re poor people who know
poor artists," Jenkins said.
Both are University School of
Art alumni. Jenkins majored in
graphic art and Fullerton is
working toward a bachelor’s degree
in art education.
Jenkins came up with the idea
for Artwares and put up most of
the money.
He then recruited Fullerton to
manage the gallery and put in
most of the time. Funding for the
non-profit gallery comes mostly
from their T-shirt store a floor
below.
Fullerton manages the gallery
for free. He supports himself by op
erating a picture-framing business
within the gallery.
The opening Saturday night will
feature many local artists, in-
for a happenin’ time at Late Nite
Disco.
• May 21: Michael Lachoweki

Artwares Gallery: A few pieces by local artists
eluding Jill Carnes, John Cleave-
land, Paul Edmonston, as well as
Jenkins and Fullerton. The
showing is free.
In the future, Jenkins and Ful
lerton also hope to offer drawing
classes for about $10 a session.
But the future of the gallery is
uncertain.
Construction at the Morton The
ater may force owners of the
building to sell the property. If that
happens, the gallery might have to
shut down.
In the meantime, though, there
will be plenty of original art at Art-
wares Gallery.
