The Georgia Museum of Art, in
observance of Arts Day USA, “cen

Picasso, Goya and Warhol
Thursday.
The museum joined other art in

dramatize what could happen if
the National Endowment for the
Arts was eliminated.
The National Endowments for
the Arts is up for reauthorization
this year, which has caused much
debate in Congress.
“Congress doesn’t know what to
do with it. There are those in Con

put severe limitations on what art
is produced. The government
should not be allowed to put limits
on your expression because it
comes to a point where it’s unde
mocratic,” said Donald Keyes, cu

The Georgia Museum “censored”
works by draping them partially in
black cloth. The paintings, in

be probably unacceptable in an
other country.
The demonstration was held to
show that censorship is detri
mental to creativity, either by
withholding funds or restricting
content.
“We are trying to get the public
to realize that there is a strong ef
fort to eliminate the National En

restrict the kind of art it funds,”
Keyes said.
“If you can’t take the risk of pro
ducing bad art, you will never pro
duce good art,” he said.
