WEEKEND ENTERTAINMENT
TATE CENTER THEATER

to your juvenile tendencies and see
this flick. It features those rapsters
Kid n’ Play. Man, that dude has
some high hair! • midnight:
Robocop.
• Oct. 21: Twilight of the
Cockroaches. Hey -- every dog has
his day, so I guess every cockroach
has his twilight.
• Oct. 23: Sleeping Beauty. Don’t
miss this animated classic. The
memory of Maleficent, the evil
villain in this movie, tormented me
throughout my young life. She is
one cold...witch.

• Oct. 25: The 22nd Tournee of
Animation.

ROCKFISH PALACE
ALPS
• Diehard II. Bruce Willis is a lean,
mean American fightin’ machine. I
don’t claim to have seen this but
from the mixed reviews I’ve read —
this movie is like most Alps
movies: you’d really like to see it
but you’d feel stupid paying over a
buck.
• Duck Tales. Bring the kiddies to
this Indiana Jones rip-off. It is nice
and colorful, though.
CLASSIC TRIPLE
• Ghost.
• Night of tho Living Dead. No, this
is not N.O.T.L.D. Ill, it’s a remake
of the original. It just might be
worth checking out.
• Taking Care of Business.

UGA NEWS IN REVIEW \ HOMECOMING
SECRETARIES OF STATE
Opinions concerning the Persian
Gulf crisis differed at the Eighth
Annual Report of the Secretaries of
State, held Oct. 12 in the Pine Arts
building.
Cyrus Vance, who served under
President Carter from 1977 to
1980, said if the United States
went ahead with a military attack,
“we’d find ourselves in a very
lonely situation.”
Alexander Haig, who served
under Reagan from 1981 to 1982,
showed more willingness to fight,
warning that “we shouldn’t kid
ourselves with these sanctions.”
William Rogers, secretary under
President Nixon from 1969 to 1973,
put his faith in President Bush’s
current attitude, which he said is
working well. He said “there are a
lot of things the government knows
about that we don’t,” and “It would
be foolhardy for the six of us to sit
around this table and speculate."
ZOOLOGY CASUALTIES
The Zoology Department began
relocating to another floor of the
Biological Sciences Complex
Monday after two employees be
came ill at work.
Zoology Office Manager Rose
mary Woodel suffered severe fa
tigue and respiratory problems
Oct.12 and was taken to St. Mary’s
Hospital. Zoology Professor Karen
Porter became ill Monday and was
sent home.
The bio-sciences complex was
tested Oct. 12 for methane by the
Georgia Natural Gas Co. No
methane was found, but an un
identified flammable substance
was found in a ceiling pipe on the
fourth floor. The toxic solvent pyri
dine was found in the same loca
tion Wednesday.
FOOTBALL FIGHT
Alpha Tau Omega and Lambda
Chi Alpha fraternities have lost
their block-seating privileges for
the two remaining home football
games due to involvement in the
fight at the Ole Miss game, in
which four students were arrested.
Athletic Director Vince Dooley,
who announced the penalty
Monday, praised student involve
ment at games, but stressed that
“behavior unbecoming of Univer
sity of Georgia attendance stan
dards will not be tolerated at any
athletic event.”
University President Charles
Knapp agreed with Dooley’s deci
sion, and after reviewing this week
University policies on student
seating, decided to leave the poli
cies unchanged.
MIDNIGHT MADNESS
A crowd of over 4,600 showed up
Monday morning at the Coliseum
for the annual “Midnight Mad
ness” basketball practice, marking
the start of the 90-91 season for the
hoop hounds.
The crowd welcomed back fa
miliar faces like Littenal Green,
Marshall Wilson and Rod Cole,
along with new ones like junior
transfer Antonio Harvey, a 6-11,
215 pound power forward from
Mississippi. Harvey began his
UGA career by winning the slum
dunk contest.
There was also a forty-minute
scrimmage, coached by Mngic 102
deejays and Red and Black and
Campus Times sports editors.
PHYSICAL P LANT
CRIPPLED
UGA budget cuts have hindered
the Physical Plant’s ability to deal
with repair work on campus, Di
rector James TenBrook said.
"Life-saving” projects such ns as
bestos removal, maintenance of
air-quulity systems and fire-safety
mensures will take top priority in
this year’s reduced budget, he said.
Increased regulatory attention
hns also put the crunch on Physical
Plant’s pocket. TenBrook said the
state fire marshall has ordered the
construction of an extenor stair
case to New College.
PARADE
The annual Homecoming Parade
will be held at 3:00 pm Friday
according to the All-Campus
Homecoming committee’s graduate
assistant Mike Augustine.
The parade-route will have a
new look this year. Instead of
starting downtown, the revelers
will begin at the Vet school and
move towards Sanford Stadium.
After crossing Sanford Bridge,
marchers turn left on Baldwin and
then left agnin on Lumpkin. The
parade will circle back at Myers
nail towards the Coliseum.
