Dogs will smell sweet
next football season

Although this season has been
nothing short of a big headache for
Bulldog fans, 1991 does look a little
brighter.
Coach Ray Goff warned Bulldog
fans that the combination of a
tough schedule with young players
would equal several losses for the
Bulldogs. And Georgia fans
learned quickly that their coach
was not blowing smoke. The Bull
dogs limped through their worst
season in more than a decade,
while suffering blowout defeats to
Auburn and Florida, as well as up
sets by Mississippi and Kentucky.
Statistically, the Bulldogs were
last in nearly every offensive de
partment and close to the base
ment on the defensive side. There
wasn’t much to smile about in
1990, but the Dogs are going to im
prove in 1991.
On offense, the Bulldogs started
a plethora of freshman and soph-
mores all seaon. Georgia’s leading
rusher, Garrison Hearst, and
leading receiver, Andre Hastings,
were both freshmen and the Bull
dogs played four other true
freshmen this season.
The Bulldogs will lose fullback
Alphonso Ellis, wide receiver Sean
Hummings, lineman William
Wynn and tight end Chris Broom
to graduation. However, with the
depth at wide receiver and tight
end, along with the miminal use of
the fullback, the losses will be min
imal.
The offensive line, anchored by
Jack Swan and LeMonte Tellis,
should be much improved after the
lessons they were taught this
season. Freshman Collin Brandon
and Shannon Mitchell are more
than adequate replacements for
Broom, and the return of Arthur
Marshall should compensate nicely
with Hummings’ departure.
The defensive unit will also re
ceive help from several players
that were missing in action. The
entire starting defensive line
(Casey Barnum, George Brewer,
and Curt Douglass) should return
along with Clay Ware. The Bull
dogs will lose linebackers Bryant
Gantt and Mo Lewis, but freshman
Mitc}^ Davis had an impressive
second half and Norman Co wins, if
reinstated, will add more bulk and
speed on the corners.
All three inside backers (Torrey
Evans, DeWaynne Simmons, and
John Allen) return. Simmons was a
pleasant surprise and will continue
to shine. Andre Washington will
also be a force in the middle. All of
the members of the Bulldog sec
ondary will return, except for
strong safety and special teams
demon Brian Cleveland.

It took Galileo 16 years to master the universe.
You have one night.
It seems unfair. The genius had all that time. While you have a few
short hours to learn your sun spots from your satellites before the
dreaded astronomy exam.
On the other hand, Vivarin gives you the definite advantage. It helps
keep you awake and mentally alert for hours. Safely and conveniently. So
even when the subject matter’s dull, your mind will stay razor sharp.
If Galileo had used Vivarin, maybe he could have mastered the solar
