CS REVIEW
A cursory glance at the
Athens music scene would tend
to suggest that Jiip-hop Is nonex
istent, but when one looks closer
and puts an ear to the street
they can hear the strong, never-
say-die beat of rap.
From Nellie B. Homes to the
University dormitories, names
such as Lodown Si Duddy. The
Notorious South, 811m 1, RNC
and Shaq are on the minds of
those who appreciated Athens'
slew of hometown verbal techni
cians. Of the pool of hometown
rhyme slingers, Lodown Si
Duddy breaks away from the rest
to go nationwide with Its Impres
sive debut CD. “Between the
Hedges."
"Between the Hedges" Is 11
tracks of pure and unadulterated
bass-laced Southern rap from a
couple of brothers who are about
to put Athens on the hip-hop
map like Rand McNally.
For the most part, the produc
tion on “Hedges" Is excellent,
and the CD contains tracks to
dance and ride to As far as the
lyrics are concerned, the Great
Kabuki couldn’t spit anything
harder "Jawga." the first track on
the CD. is a straight-up ride out
song with lightning-quick, ven
omous lyrics "Lodown Si Duddy*
Is a 'get crunk,' crowd r Jnciting
autobiography that'll hirer heads
bouncing well past the 2:45 a m
downtown shutdown
"BALL IN (Broke And
Livin' Like It |Ain't] Nothin')’ Is
a laid-back bailer's anthem to
keeping It real by remaining the
person before the cash. Duddy
drops a gem when he goes off on
the busters who are “steady
flossin' what they got/ tryln’ to
show off they paper/ Beeping
yourself and a minute later/ hol
lerin' you tired of yo’ pager."
