vs. Furman, 5 p.m.
at tha Woman’s Sports Complex
the field has no doubt affected
their play on the field.
“I think It helps with our com
munication," Tyree said.
Communication is key in the
middle of the infield, where a
double play could make the dif
ference between winning and los
ing.
“We know each other’s bound
aries," Tassio added as another
positive of being roommates.
Though these boundaries are not
always adhered to.
"[Michelle] always steals my
ball, or tries too," Tassio said.
Laughing, Tyree tells of a time
both went after a fly ball, then
backed off at the same time. No
one caught the ball.
Corin and Michelle are leaders
of a stellar freshman class that
has already made an impact on
Georgia softball.
Many of the regular starters
are only one year removed from
high school jerseys.
The Georgia coaching staff
refers to the new class as
"mature freshman."
“We all get along really well
together,” Tassio said.
“We’re together on and off the
field. We go out together all the
time on the weekends," added
Tyree.
The girls are even going as far
as living next door to one another
next year in apartments.
Tyree halls from Brentwood,
Term., a town outside of
Nashville.
While attending David
Lipscomb High School, Tyree
won a state championship. Her
summer team, the Nashville
Eagles, won the national champi
onship for the 18-and-under
league that same year.
Though she played basketball,
that same year Tyree said she
always knew she wanted to play
Division I-A SEC softball.
Corin hails from Sarasota, Fla.,
and Riverview High School. She
also was a two-sport athlete,
moonlighting In volleyball.
Tassio also experienced sum
mer league success, winning the
South Carolina Dynamite Classic
and the Colorado Firecracker
tournaments. Both are very pres
tigious tournaments In the soft
ball world.
When asked what they do for
fun, the girls share a quick look,
and exchange smiles. The girls
described a day off from practice
that turned into a day of make
overs.
“We did facials with mud
masks, we did our hair, our nails,"
Tyree said. “We spent thirty dol
lars at Eckerd’s pampering our
selves, just being girls.”
The girls told another story
that stemmed from the bus ride
back from the Georgia Tech
game.
This ride featured several
teammates and one head coach
using saran wrap — usually used
to wrap ice bags for injuries — to
contort scary faces.
In a long season with long
games, a sense of humor Is need
ed to keep your sanity.

“I don’t want to say that I
hated her," said Georgia softball
second baseman Corin Tassio,
laughing, “but she would throw
me out every time."
The “she" to whom Tassio is
referring Is shortstop and room
mate Michelle Tyree. Before the
two freshmen played the middle
of the Infield together for the
Dogs, they squared off against
each other In summer ball.
“She always hit it to me,”
Tyree retorted with a smile in
response to the accusation.
The two middle inflelders will
combine skills for Georgia this
afternoon, as the Dogs play host
to non-conference foe Rirman In
a 5 p.m. contest at the Women's
Sports Complex.
Tassio and Tyree met on a
recruitment trip to Athens, and
their friendship followed soon
after. The two girls then decided
to be roommates.
Spending time around the two
of them leaves no doubt that the
friends have grown close quickly.
The bond they have attained off
with Eagle Greens Ltd.
