Dogs hope for complete game
By GRAHAM GARRISON

Georgia, more than a 31-
point favorite over winless
Houston, still has a lot to play
for Saturday at noon in its
regular season finale.
A win against the Cougars
(0-10) would give the
Bulldogs (7-3) eight wins for
the fifth consecutive season
— a school record.
The record would surpass
No. 16 Georgia’s only other
stretch of four years with
eight wins or more (1980-83).
It’s also a shot to finish in
the Associated Press top 25
poll for the fifth year running,
another school mark.
However, redshirt fresh
man quarterback David
Greene said Saturday pre
sents the Bulldogs with a
chance for their first com
plete performance of the year.
“We’re trying to play our
best game,” he said. “We feel
like, throughout the whole
year, we still haven’t played
our best game overall.”
Bright future for
Georgia’s offense
Things are looking up for
Georgia’s offense next year.
The Bulldogs return play
ers that accounted for nearly
75 percent of their offensive
production from this season.
Most notable is wide
receiver, where the top two
Bulldogs, junior Terrence
Edwards and true freshman
Fred Gibson, have already put
their name on many school
records.
Edwards, team leader in
receptions (35), needs one
more touchdown catch to tie
Brice Hunter’s career mark
of 19.
“It’s been a roller coaster
this year with the ups and
downs,” Edwards said. “This
season has made me a better
player and made me realize
what I have to do on the
practice field to translate to
the game.”
Edwards is also one 100-
yard receiving game away
from tying Hunter’s seven
career games with 100-plus
receiving yards.
Gibson already has five
100-yard receiving games in
just nine appearances,
including the single game
record of 201 yards against
Kentucky.
The Waycross native, team
leader in receiving yards (754),
averages 24.3 yards per catch.
“Both Fred and Terrence
have made some big plays for
us this year,” Greene said.

will be recognized before
Saturday’s game as part of

offensive side will be wide
receivers Corrie Collier and

Lady Dogs take
sloppy victory
By AMBER SHAW

The Georgia women’s basketball team held
off Georgia State 77-67 Tuesday night at
Stegeman Coliseum.
No. 13 Georgia trailed its in-state rival by
eight points at halftime, but an 11-1 run mid
way through the second half propelled the
Lady Bulldogs to a hard-fought victory.
“I thought we played reasonably well in the
second half,” Georgia coach Andy Landers
said. “But we have lapses in terms of effort
and memory that are dangerous.”
The Lady Bulldogs reclaimed the lead on a
Christi Thomas shot from the lane with 10:32
left in the game. The Lady Panthers, who shot
40 percent from three-point range, cooled in
the second half. Georgia maintained the lead,
and after a Georgia State turnover with 1:10 left
on the clock, freshman Kara Braxton sunk two
free-throws to give Georgia an 11-point lead.
“We were really pleased with the win,”
Braxton said. “In the first half, we were jittery,
but we settled down in the second.”

Georgia State made 80 percent of its free
throws and outrebounded the taller Lady
Bulldogs, 25-24. Those factors, along with the
hot 3-point shooting, allowed the Lady
Panthers to jump in front before halftime.
Meanwhile, Georgia struggled from the
three-point line, going 0-11.
“They are open and choking,” Georgia
coach Andy Landers said. “Let’s not disguise
it. You can’t keep choking.”
