Hellogoodbye’s album filled with catchy, electronic beats
By MICHELLE FLOYD

“Zombies! Aliens!
Vampires! Dinosaurs!” Oh,
my!
No, it’s not the name of
the next remake of “The
Wizard of Oz.” It's the name
of the power-pop group
Hellogoodbye’s debut full-
length album.
But the title is mislead
ing. The only creatures
found on this CD are the
ones on cover, which is just
begging to be colored.
The inside is filled with
catchy lyrics, funky electron
ic beats and a whole lot of
fun. There are many dance
songs throughout this 11-
track album.
A lot of them feature lead
vocalist Forrest Kline in true
electronica fashion — sound
ing somewhat like a comput
er voice.
The first couple of tracks,
“All of Your Love” and “Here
(In Your Arms),” sound simi
lar to one another and set
the pace for most of the
album, which features
dance/electronica tunes and
altered, computerized voices
and instruments.
“Touchdown Turnaround
(Don’t Give Up on Me)” is
probably the most electronic
song, but with a title like
that, it kind of has to be.
“I Saw It on Your
Keyboard” has clapping and
“Oh-Ohs,” which are key
ingredients to fun, dance-
able songs.
“Homewrecker,” even
though very lyric-driven, is
extremely catchy and dance-
y, with short choppy phrases
about, what else, a home
wrecking girl.
There are only a few
songs that may seem out of
place or just thrown in, but
somehow they still fit in this
not-y our-typical-love - song-
filled CD.
“Stuck to You” is very
raw-sounding; with mainly
just a voice and a guitar and
occasionally some drums or
other sounds will pop in
there.
This song holds the
theme of this entire album
with the lyrics “we show our
affection electronically.”
However, it’s one of the least
electronic songs.
And forget guitar solos!
It’s all about mandolins in
“Oh, It Is Love.” It’s sweet
sounding and soft at the
beginning and gets harder
vocals and instruments by
the end, but still feels the
same throughout with the
mandolin.
“Figures A and B (Means
You and Me)” is the “dark
est” song. Well, as dark as
HGB can be.
It’s not really with the
lyrics, which are pretty posi
tive about love, but with the
guitars and Kline’s voice.
Even with 11 songs and a
few songs at four minutes or
more, the album is only a lit
tle more than half an hour
long.
Quite possibly the short
est CD ever made?
Perhaps, but it seems
longer while listening to it.
The CD also comes with a

Verdict: A very fun, but very
short, dance party that’s filled with
electronica and pop songs about
love.
‘Pulse’ weakened by
flat acting and script

Five college students try
to save the day as technolo
gy literally consumes their
friends in the latest
Japanese horror remake,
“Pulse.”
Based on Kiyoshi
Kurosawa’s “Kairo,” the film
is set on a gritty, urban col
lege campus where technol
ogy has made its way into
everyone’s lives, and that
cyber connection has
become a threat that can
not be stopped. This evil
lurks inside of cell phones
and computers, and the one
thing it wants is your life.
“Pulse” satisfies the need
for a little suspense without
gore. However, the script
and acting feel as if some
thing is missing.
Kristen Bell stars as
Mattie Webber, a college
student who has just lost
her boyfriend to a mysteri
ous technological appari
tion. At times, Bell is believ
able as the troubled college
student, but when the
movie hits climactic high
points, her performance
falls.
Ian Somerhalder, known
for his role as Boone on
“Lost,” did a good job with
the limited script.
Somerhalder plays Dexter

The cinematography was
well done, adding to the
empty feeling that lies
inside each character. The
color also was well used, as
the grainy blues and blacks
and lack of brightness
heightened the film’s
solemn mood.

ly. The actors, on the other
hand, could have used a bit
more direction in their roles
because the characteriza
tion was shallow.
The various string instru
ments throughout the film
kept the suspense up, and
the orchestral arrangements
helped with the scare tac
tics. Without them, the film
would not have been very
suspenseful.
Reminiscent of films like
“The Ring” and “The
Grudge,” “Pulse” leaves lit
tle to the imagination since
the plot has been seen
many times before.
When it comes to a man’s
maintenance, girls and guys
don’t always agree.
Everybody seems to have a
different idea about how
much upkeep is required to
be a respectable guy.
Girls have a wide range of
how much or how little
grooming is enough.
HAIR:
There are countless
acceptable hairstyles for
men.
This grooming topic is
safe because girls have many
preferences.
Katie Cullinan, a junior
from Chester Springs, Penn,
set her acceptable range of
hair length on a guy.
“Not too short, definitely
not longer than mine,” she
said.
“And definitely not over
done - a guy shouldn’t spend
more than 20 seconds on his
hair.”
Taylor Sauls, a senior
from Suwanee, said she
prefers a man with a gel-free
style.
“I like to be able to rub a
guy’s head, and having gel in
it doesn’t feel very good.”
But some men find gel the
best way to tailor their hair.
“It’s quick and easy,” said
Andrew Wells, a senior from
Roswell.
TAN:
Tanning can be a sensi
tive subject for men because
it’s harder to obtain that
healthy glow without seem
ing too feminine.
Cullinan said she likes a
guy to be tan, but not artifi
cially.
“I feel like a guy who goes
to the tanning bed loses a
few points on the macho
scale.”
Sauls likes a tan man, so
she said tanning beds are
okay for guys.
grooming
SMELL:
Nobody likes a stinky
boy. But giving yourself a
squirt of cologne has its
opponents.
Cullinan said she loves
cologne.
“A few spritzes of cologne
adds that little something
extra,” she said. “Just make
sure it’s not replacing a
shower.”
Robert Bagwell, a gradu
ate of the business school,
gave a male perspective.
“I think that girls tend to
notice you more if you smell
nice,” he said.
NAILS:
Some girls do notice the
condition and cleanliness of
guys’ nails.
Some guys are aware of a
girl’s preference for neat
nails, like Bagwell.
“I clip them when they get
unsightly,” he said. “But the
only time I really care is if I
have a date or an interview.”
