DIVE: Colwill is a rising star
>- From Page IB
-lishing him as one of the top
divers in the nation and a ris
ing star internationally.
“I don’t really think about
it that much,” said Colwill. “If
other people are talking
about me, I don’t hear. I’m
just coming from a different
perspective. I guess in the
back of my mind I know but I
just keep focusing.”
Laak said that it is hard to
be away from his family for
such an extended period,
especially being gone for 15
days at a time. However, he
said that seeing Colwill do
well was exciting.
Although the traveling and
competition did not make for
much vacation over the
summer, both Laak and
Colwill agree they would not
change the experiences
they’ve had over the last few
months.
Colwill said he is still going
to strive for improvement. He
would like to perfect his form,
as well as add harder dives
to his list of abilities
while continuing to compete
internationally and stay at
the top of his sport.
Colwill added his ultimate
goal is to return to China as
a member of the U.S. Olympic
team in 2008, but he is “just
going to take one step at a
time.”
SPECIAL | The Red & Black
A Diver Chris Colwill competed at events around the globe
this past summer, capturing medals in competitions in
China and Indianapolis. Despite his successes, Colwill still
sees room for improvement this fall.
