Good clothing
choice a must
for tailgaters
By MEGAN HARRISON
mharrison@randb.com
This Saturday morning,
the football players have it
easy in some respects.
They don’t have to
decide what to wear to the
game - the silver britches
and jerseys solve that prob
lem.
But for the rest of the
student body attending the
game, the choice is not so
narrow, especially for fresh
men.
Upperclassmen, for the
most part, have set a rou
tine for football game fash
ion. Whether it be in T-
shirts and shorts or in all-
out dress-up clothes, most
students know which styles
they prefer.
But for freshmen the
choice is not so simple.
Many will decide on shorts
and T-shirts for comfort,
while others will join the
masses in what some would
consider their “Sunday
Best.”
It’s the first time many
freshmen will attend a
game, and the 12:30 p.m.
kickoff will put students
outside during the hottest
part of the day.
Not only is it going to be
hot, but many of the fresh
men were given tickets to
the 300-level of the stadium,
leaving them in direct sun
light the entire game.
But the way a person
dresses at the game does
not matter to some fresh
men.
“I’m all about comfort,”
Jessie Davis, a student from
Conyers, said. While she will
be in shorts and a T-shirt
she said her peers can dress
up if they see fit.
Greg Howard of Snellville
agreed, saying that he does
not feel bad for the people
who dress up because it is
their choice, but he will not
be in khakis and a tie.
For many students, it is
not just about the fashion at
the games, but rather about
cheering on the team and
having a good time.
“I’ll definitely be sporting
the red and black,” Howard
said, adding that he hopes
that the team gets “pre
pared for next week
(against South Carolina)
without overlooking the
opponent.”
Davis, who did not follow
football much in high
school, said she is just excit
ed and ready to attend her
first game.
The excitement of tail-
gating and seeing the
Bulldogs play is overshad
owed for some this year by
new policies regarding
drinking on campus and
parking for football games.
Howard said he was
interested to find out how
the campus would be
impacted, and knows he
just has to be more careful.
But for many freshmen,
the upcoming football sea
son comes with some
resentment. Not all fresh
men received a full season
ticket package.
“It’s a little upsetting,”
Howard said.
“But it could be a lot
worse. I know some return
ing students who got split
package.”

Coaches give no indication on role Stafford will play
By MATTHEW
BORENSTEIN
mborenste@randb.com
What will Matthew
Stafford’s role be in his first
game as a Bulldog?
The freshman quarterback
didn’t know as of Wednesday
night, the last time a player
can be interviewed.
“They’re not sure,” he said.
“I don’t know if I am going to
play or not.”
Head coach Mark Richt
said after practice Thursday
he was still unsure of which
quarterbacks will play and
how he will rotate them. He
hasn’t had a chance to meet
with quarterbacks coach
Mike Bobo to talk things
over, but will talk with him by
FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK
phone later.
“We haven’t (decided),”
Richt said. “If I did (have it
decided), I’m not sure I’d tell
you. I might tell you, but right
now we’ve not nailed it
down.”
Stafford didn’t know if he
would be asked to signal
plays or just watch from the
sideline if he is not on the
field.
“If they want me to signal,
I’ll signal,” he said.
“Otherwise, I’ll just try to
learn as much as I can.”
Richt did have an answer
for part of this question.
Stafford won’t be signaling
plays from the sideline.
Stafford was sure of one
thing. He doesn’t want to be
redshirted.
“I want to play,” he said
quickly after being asked
about redshirting. “If you pre
pare for this long, any player
wants to play. I’d definitely
like to get in there, but if
that’s not in the plans, it’s not
in the plans.”
Rain forces ‘Plan B’
After practice, Richt con
tinued his tradition of plead
ing for an indoor practice
facility every time it rains.
The team had to move to
“Plan B,” and hold practice
before team meetings to be
able to squeeze in an outdoor
workout.
Richt said he spends 20
minutes preparing contin
gency plans every time there
is a threat of rain. The team
finished practice in a light
rain, and heavy showers
began right after the team
left the field.
Also from practice, Richt
reported no one was injured
in practice and that redshirt
freshman defensive tackle
Kade Weston will start after
jumping Dale Dixson on the
depth chart. Richt didn’t
know of any other changes to
the depth chart.
No rest for 0-line
The Georgia offensive line,
shorthanded because of sus
pensions and an injury, hasn’t
been given rest in practice to
prepare for Saturday’s game.
Instead, they’ve been run
ning and conditioning more
to be prepared to play more
against Western Kentucky,
starting center Nick Jones
said.
“We’re kinda thin so we got
to be in shape,” Jones said.
“It’s (the lack of depth is) one
thing where you try not to
think about it.
Ducks-Bulldogs
match-ups set
The Georgia Football will
play Oregon during the 2015
and 2016 seasons, Athletic
Director Damon Evans
announced yesterday.
"This will bring another
great intersectional series to
our future schedules," Evans
said. "Oregon has had some
great teams and has a nation
al reputation for outstanding
football."
Georgia will travel to
Eugene in 2015 and play at
home in 2016.
Game dates have not been
set.
Georgia and Oregon have
played only once — a 27-16
Bulldog win in Athens in
1977.
Other recently added
series to future schedules
include Colorado (2006 and
2010), Arizona State (2008
and 2009), Louisville (2011
and 2012) and Clemson (2013
and 2014).
