BBALL: Height may
help Georgia win
>- From Page 1A
NCAA Tournament, we plan
on making a mark for our
selves,” sophomore guard
Billy Humphrey said. “We feel
like we are good enough to be
in the tournament.”
Southern features nine
new players and must replace
its leading scorer, guard Chris
Alexander.
In addition, Georgia is
taller than Southern. The
Tigers only have two players
above 6-foot-7, while the
Bulldogs have five players
listed on the roster above
that height.
Experienced senior guard
DeForrest Riley-Smith, who
averaged 10.9 points a game
last season, could cause trou
ble for the Bulldogs.
“I think everybody is
ready to see what we can do
against a quality opponent,”
freshmen center Albert
Jackson said. “It is the first
real game and I am excited
about it.”
In addition to Georgia’s
roster being injury free, junior
point guard Sundiata Gaines
makes his return to the line
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Opponent: Southern (0-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Stegeman Coliseum
History: Georgia leads all-time
series 1-0
Student Tickets: $2 (on sale
today between Creswell Hall and
Bolton, 4-7 p.m.; tomorrow,
University bookstore, 9 a.m.-4
p.m. and before tip-off at
Stegeman box office)
up after serving a one-game
suspension.
“We have a lot going for
ourselves as far as this game,”
Humphrey said.
This will be the second
time the two teams have
squared off. In the first
meeting, Georgia beat
Southern 93-87 in 1987 in
Athens.
Georgia is coming off a 96-
52 whipping of West Georgia
in the only exhibition game of
the year. Humphrey said that
the competition did not indi
cate anything about regular
season competition.
Unconventional workouts can
spice up your fitness routine
T ry these unconven
tional exercises for a
little workout flavor.
Zottman Curl
Perform the positive por
tion of the Zottman Curl like
the standard dumbbell curl,
without twisting or rotating
your wrist during the curling
movement, and perform the
negative portion like the
reverse curl.
Pin your elbows to your
sides throughout the move
ment and squeeze your
biceps at the top of the curl.
After squeezing your
biceps, rotate the dumbbells
one hundred and eighty
degrees (or slightly less,
depending on your range of
motion), and slowly lower
the weights.
Half sit-ups.
Perform half sit-ups
exactly like regular sit-ups,
with the range of motion cut
in half.
Beginning from the initial
sit-up position, crunch until
your body forms a forty-five
Health and Fitness

▲
degree angle with the floor.
Pause, and descend.
The half sit-up can also
be performed from the top
portion of the sit-up.
Starting from this point,
descend until your body
forms a forty-five degree
angle with the floor, then
rise.
Try supersetting sets of
half sit-ups and regular sit-
ups.
One-arm cable row.
Attach a D-handle (the
handle that resembles a
capital D) to the cable row
machine.
Keeping your back
straight, your knees slightly
bent and your feet secure on
the pads, grip the handle
with a palms-down grip.
Pull the handle back
while simultaneously rotat
ing your wrist to a thumbs-
up position (palm facing the
opposite arm). Pause and
squeeze your lats at the
peak of the movement, then
slowly return to the starting-
position.
You can lean a little for
ward to get a good stretch
in your lats, but don’t jerk
the weight. Remember to
exhale and inhale on the
positive and negative por
tions of the exercise, respec
tively.
Truck Drivers
Grab a relatively light
plate, preferable five to ten
pounds, at hand positions of
approximately three and
nine o’clock.
With your arms extended
and elbows slightly bent,
raise the plate to approxi
mately chin level (your body
should form an upside down
L). Holding this position,
rotate the plate left and
right, like you’re turning the
steering wheel of a car. Do
not change your grip during
the exercise.
Try performing truck
drivers for approximately
one minute or longer during
your shoulder workout.
Shoulder-Neck-Shoulders
Make a “T” by extending
your arms. Without resting,
touch your shoulders, the
back of your neck, your
shoulders again, and then
extend your arms again.
Perform this cycle
approximately 100 times
at the end of any arm
workout.
Props to my West Point
buddy Patrick Walker for
these.

The Japanese puzzle
Sudoku relies on
reasoning and logic.
To solve it, fill in the
grid so that every row,
every column and
every 3 by 3 box
contains the digits 1

Nothing has to add
up to anything else.
